Rennaisance MOREL HLP-501 - info please Hi, I have no experience with that speaker, but what I can address is t he tweeter. I had a pair of Unity Audio Signature 1's I bought new in 1993 and they had the Morel silk-dome tweeters. They were always very muscial and not shrill or too etche...
The focus and air lie It probably happened because audiophiles (as opposed to music lovers?) feel t hey are missing out on something if they cant wring every last iota of detail out of their recordings. I would rather have timbral accuracy and the richness of the body ...
Used speakers for $3k? Oh the confusion Hi Stereo, I had a pair of Klipsch Fortes years ago, and while they do rock on not a lot of power, I could never get them to do the "disappearing" thing. Tried all sorts of differing placement, room treatments, spikes, cones, cable...never happene...
Manu Katche Agree with Tvad, Katche's playing on Neighborhood is good but not the best showcase for his talent. I was always much more impressed with his playing with Gabriel. I was a bass player for many years and have a good appreciation of drummers, since ...
Good sounding 70's live LPs... I can second Audiofeil's recommendation on the live Waiting for Columbus album by Little Feat. I have an orginal Warner Bros. pressing and it is excellent. Also like Genesis' "Seconds Out" live double album at a concert they gave in Paris.--Mrmitch
State of the art speakers from yesteryear. Have to agree with Kirkus on those yamahas. Many studios used them as monitors which is why so many recordings sound tipped up in the treble, harsh, and bright. Try Waveform Mach 13's.--Mrmitch
Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Hi Raul, No, unfortunately my old CJ-PV5 although heavily modded wont allow me to change the loading of 47K. I will be looking for a new pre-amp in the near future although I suppose I could get a step-up transformer in the interim. Just wanted to...

Who needs a MM cartridge type when we have MC? Raul, Most of us knew what you were d riving at with the title of your thread, that you weren't "dissing" moving magnets at all. You deserve thanks, as many have given you, for all your research and hard work! I currently use a Clearaudio Virtuoso...
How many LPs is enough? I saw the article Sirspeedy refers to in TAS. Talk about dying and going to audio/musicophile heaven!! I had the same reaction as Sirspeedy did, as my collection is 2500 LP's and about 500 cd's.--Mrmitch
Why vinyl? I've had both analog and digital in my stereo system concurrently since 1983. I prefer vinyl for high-end sound, but can enjoy cd's too. Some pieces of music have never been available on digital (usually orchestral or jazz from the classic era), a...

Can anyone recomend any great bono/conga albums Try to find any music by Tito Puente. He had a big band in the late 30's and 40's i believe, and some of Santana's early songs are actually his, such as "Oye Como Va." He featured lots of bongo, conga, and timbales playing.--Mrmitch
Your First Concert was..... Steppenwolf at the War Memorial in Syracuse NY in 1968.--Mrmitch |
