How old is too old? As Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull once said, "You're never to old, old old, to rock and roll, roll, roll.............". He could have added "or any other form of music that you love"! I'm 61 and still listening to my system avidly, have about $15,000...
Review: Clearaudio Virtuoso Wood Cartridge As always Raul, your knowledge and willingness to share your findings is an asset to all of us here amd much appreciated. I have a wood bodied Virtuoso and in comparison to another cartridge I use, the Dynavector 20XL, I find it to be a little tow...
for Bill Evans fan Also his Montreux Jazz Festival albums are terrific.
for Bill Evans fan "Intermodulation", with him and Jim Hall on guitar.
Great sounding WLP LPs. Have found WLP's to be excellent but the biggest difference I've heard is Rick Wakeman's "The Six Wives of Henry the Eighth". I have both a regular 1st pressing and a Quadraphonic Promo and the Quad promo beats the pants off the regular issue.
Suggestions for current blues guitarists Lightnin' Malcolm, Smokin Joe Kubek, Coco Montoya, Ainsley Lister, Tom Principato, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Studebaker John
Tube Phono Stage vs Solid State What do you think? I try to hit a happy medium by having a tube phono stage (Fosgate Signature) running into a tube preamp (Joule Electra LA-150 Mk 2) and out to a solid state amp (Belles 350A). Dynavector 20x2H I have one on a 12 inch Ortofon tonearm atop a TW Akustic Raven One. 200 hours and its terrific, can be a little steely til then.
Intermittent Static pops in one channel Another possibility is a capacitor problem somewhere in the chain. Dont know how old your components are but as they age the capacitors go bad and can discharge during loud passages, giving you a loud pop or crack, Usually though this is a problem...
MFSL moody blues: are they all so good? Have to agree with Bill on "Days"-my 1st pressing Deram beats the Mofi.
Originals vs. reissues/current issues I usually seek out 1st pressings, and on the whole they've been better than re-issues. Once in awhile though a reissue comes along that beats the original, like Mofi's reissue of Santana's 2nd album.
Best CD I've heard so far 2011......... Desalvo, Big fan of Zero 7 here. "When It Falls" is a terrific album if youre into that laid back, semi-spacey vibe. Great harmonies! Sia does have a nice voice but so does the other girl.
Stereophile vs. Sports Illustrated Just stumbled upon this post. Maybe we could start a new rag, call it StereosportsIllustrated. Have babes in bikinis (made of acoustically inert material of course, wouldnt want nasty reflections off those puppies) listening to high end systems. W...
Does 'Accuracy' Matter or exist ? Just wonder how many of us , upon sitting down to listen to "The most accurate speaker in the world " (if such a thing were to exist), backed up with all kinds of scientific measurements, would exclaim "Gahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I cant listen another... |
