Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
tomic601, I have no doubt you use your CC2 sometimes, and I know it well. It is not to the level of whatever " main " amp you are using, or you would be using it in your main system. Most of the amps mentioned in this thread, and a point I made, i...
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
To pryso : I believe your question was for timlub. And yes, it was ( and still is ) class A. To pts : the power cord matters on all equipment, whether it drops voltage, or not. Enjoy ! MrD.
Nuforce STA200
jetter, I did try some 10db attenuators and did not like them. I also borrowed an inexpensive passive unit to go between my pre and amp. Did not like it either, with a 2'ndary volume control and an additional set of cables. Tried the cheap passive...
Nuforce STA200
I purchased a Luminous Audio Walker Mod, single ended, 3 in, 2 out remote unit about a month ago, and all I can say is, I will never use a preamp again. And, the STA 200 is amazing, and such a joy to listen through. Enjoy ! MrD.
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
pts....you can look for a Pioneer Series 20 M25, which shares the family sound with the M22, but having both, I would still stick with the M22. Once you go class A, it is hard for your ears to adjust to anything else. You and I both know the sonic...
McIntosh MC 275 Mark VI
d2girls, this is a tube preamp, but it does use some solid state circuitry. Google is your friend. Tube PreamplifierHVT 9/2008 and posted in Hi-Fi, Reviews by Ken KesslerLike too few others, McIntosh isn’t afraid to keep a model in its line-up for...
Speakers for aging audiophiles - What's with today bass emphasis ?
marklings, it is my opinion that the speakers you have are a modern day Yamaha NS10 M, or are trying to be. Looking at their specs and reading about them, they are fairly accurate, and should not be that " off " as you say. If your earlier recordi...
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
Pts, I wonder if any of the amps, posters are recommending, are amps that are stationary in their main listening rooms ? I know they were good in their day ( most have passed through my rooms ), but they do not compare to an M22. Get the Nuforce S...
Small Bedroom Tube Amp
To the OP. I would select the speakers first. To br3098, the Peachtree Nova is a hybrid, as it uses a tube at the input ( as stated by uberwaltz ). Enjoy ! MrD.
Would you buy a Dahlquit-10 if one was available for purchase near you
I have had quite a collective amount of speakers and equipment throughout the years ( as many others have ).When I had my DQ10s, I drove them with a GAS Ampzilla, and with a pair of Janis W1s with the interphase amps ( 1 for each ). These were the...
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
I do not believe a vtg McIntosh ss amp is as good sounding as the M22, given my own ownership and listening experiences. I gave you a solid recommendation. Enjoy ! MrD.
Best vintage amps (late 70s / early 80s) under $3k?
I am not familiar with your speakers, and based on the name description, cannot find them on the net. I have owned the Pioneer Series 20 M22 and know it well. Does the amp clip ? 30 watts of class a power should be ok, even with your speakers, par...
Klipsch Heresy 1 Compatibility question with Class D Amp
Dampen the mid horns of the Heresys. I speak about it a lot on other threads. It will remove some of the edge and smooth things out. But, smaller and simpler amps sound best ( less output transistors, class A, or tubes ).Enjoy ! MrD.
Upgrade from ADS L1230
I totally agree with yogiboy. Are the ADS speakers " stable " with the floor ( spiked in some way ) ? If the cabinets move, even a hair, this would make the bass sound " sluggish ". Enjoy ! MrD.
Connect a sub to stereo system
Sorry. I be mistaken. Enjoy ! MrD.
