Finally found a space for the speakers I’ve been storing... and I don’t love them any more
I had a pair of Paradigm Titan Monitor v.6 (the last of the line, built in Canada). I had them paired with 1990's Rotel separates and they were a bit too intense. When I upgraded to an Arcam integrated they smoothed out and sounded like different ...
Is It Time To Sell My Vinyl Rig?
Choose between health and any material do-hickey? What's to decide?
VINYL SUCKS!
Despite all of vinyl's drawbacks, I like the connection to my favorite audio period of the late 70's. I used to sell the stuff, covet the stuff, play the stuff, collect the stuff. Still do all the above, but not for my livelihood. Does it sound be...
CD or Streaming... am I missing out?
My okay Denon streamer was no longer supported by the company. It then became a FM tuner with wired iPhone/iPad capability. That being said, as long as I am using my iPhone via the firewire connection to the streamer, even a compressed 320 kbps st...
Why so many angry audiophiles?
I have a relatively (for this forum) inexpensive system. Sometimes I get angry because its not a reference system and I see its warts. Sometimes I am fully content because the music its playing is wonderous. When I am in the anger mode, I try to r...
For auld lang syne, ..high-end companies you really liked that are gone....

Inexpensive MM Cartridge
I have owned quite a few entry level vintage TT's. I find that the old AT cartridge format works well with the heavier S shaped tonearms. I had an older 440 OCC body with a newer ML stylus mounted on a similar Technics TT (to the Pioneer 512). I t...
MM Cartridge Talk
When I returned to vinyl in the early 00's, I found a nice Philips AF 777 on which I installed a Grado Black. It had been about 25 years since I owned a turntable and I found this humble combination to be very satisfying. I think it worked especia...
A new way of adjusting anti skate!
I will only go so far as using my $14 azimuth/overhang protractor when I swap carts. If I am tracking at 1.5 grams, I set my AS to 1.5 grams. I know I must sound pretty barbaric to true audiophiles, but after 45 years in the hobby, I found this am...
Why is black so popular for components?
I recall reading something in a design journal, several decades ago, that black was associated with "professional" equipment, beginning in the early 60's. They referenced both chrome and black Nikons, Canon's and Leica's.In the 70's, higher end se...
Is 1990's equipment vintage?
Here are my definitions:Vintage - when one is selling 1990's stuffUsed - when one is buying 1990's stuffClassic - when one is selling 1990's stuff on lineFrom a performance aspect, there are good components from every decade. I like using the labe...
why a 75 dollar blue ray smokes all 2k CD players and any turntable???
As Mr. Schroeder indicated: " There will always be Chintziphiles". I know I'm in that class as I have never spent more than $1000 on any individual component. My listening space is sonically challanged, I have 20% hearing loss in my right ear and...
I blew up my receiver. Now what?
If it's a receiver you need, in Europe, I would get a Cambridge Audio SR20 or whatever the new series is called. You won't get HDMI inputs, but you will get a competent, multi-voltage receiver for moderate Euros.
Is easy to know when a non english speaker is writting?
I enjoy reading posts, in any forum, from people of other cultures or nationalities. I can often spot syntax and grammer oddities, but it makes for even more interesting reading. I used to teach English as a second language. English is far more ea...
ls FM radio even listenable any more?
Detroit metro area still has some good public radio stations. WDET and WRCJ both broadcast in high quality terrestrial. When I had a decent analog tuner, I would listen on some evenings and weekends. My tuner's gone and I stream the same material....
