Speaker Spikes - Working Principle
My listening space is on a slab, covered with a vinyl laminate. My speaker stands are on elastomer feet, no spikes. Based on how the floor isn't suspended and concrete is pretty dead acoustically, not using spikes works in my environment.
Anyone listen to Music on a FM tuner anymore?
I was gifted a Luxman T-450, a few years ago. It's not as good as the Sansui TU-717, I had back in the day, but it's a very nice, all original, fully analog tuner. In the Detroit area, there are still some very high quality broadcast FM stations. ...
Why do people like reel to reel players?
I always wanted a RTR deck. Preferably with 10 inch reels and huge level meters. The only real use I can see for a RTR deck is to record digital music sources into analog. Kind of like an analog buffer. Of course anything other than 1/2 track reco...
Happy Holidays and Your Favorite Tips?
Tip 1: System synergy. I found this to be more important than expensive cables, room treatment and dollars invested. The key being amp and speakers.  Tip 2: Try not to demonize those with whom you disagree. Anger and resentment shorten your life....
Do I Need a Dedicated Streamer?
BTW, thank you yage for the links. Very helpful.
Do I Need a Dedicated Streamer?
I am using a PC for streaming, mostly due to budget constraints. The PC is hooked to the router/modem via ethernet cable. The PC sends the stream, via USB, to the internal DAC of the AMP (Cambridge Audio CXA 81). I have also installed a jitter fil...
Do you adjust your subwoofer
I fiddle with my 2 channel system sub's settings constantly. Different recordings have varying amounts of bass and analog sources require different output than digital sources. I wish my old Velodyne had a remote.
She loves me she loves me not!
I tried my Revels grills on/off when I first purchased them. The grills had a noticeable detrimental effect on the sound. Luckily the baffles have the same finish as the rest of the cabinets. I also know where the grills are, on the top shelf, in ...
help choosing a turn table
I might suggest checking out some semi-auto or auto lift turntables. I have read very good reviews of the new Technics 1500c. I would suggest, however, replacing either the included Ortofon 2M Red with a better cartridge or buy a stylus upgrade su...
Have you asked yourself this question?
My music listening is about 95% streaming. I have an old Philips AF 877, that I refurbished, playing through an inexpensive NAD phono preamp. My LP collection is limited to however many can fit in my stereo stand. I still have a TT because I am ol...

Why Streaming Service Sounds ‘Flat’ vs Tune In /Local FM /Radio Paradise
My lack of funds, at the moment, is keeping me from buying a new streamer. I decided to try using my computer for streaming, via a USB B connection to the native DAC in my amp. I am also running my internet via ethernet cables to the PC. I found t...
new to streaming- help!
soix - I have space constraints where adding another device will be challenging in my AV rack. I'm sure a dedicated streamer would sound better than my outdated PC. I just have nowhere to put an additional piece of audio equipment. Not sure what p...
new to streaming- help!
I know most of the people posting here indicate that streaming from a PC is bad for audio quality. Mostly due to space constraints, I am using a PC as a streaming source. It was clearly a sub-par source until I bought a Jitter filter. Made a huge ...
Velodyne DD15 - worth repairing the plate amp?
I have a Velodyne SPL 1000 that I purchased new in 2000 for $800, on sale from 1K. It has been in constant, moderate use all of those years in both 2 channel and HT applications. I know this sub was a step down from the DD series of the day, but i...
