Help with streamer software
The OP mentioned, "I know I can stream to my iPad and bump that over to the streamer but the quality problems are well known." Uh, would someone please tell me the short version of what those "quality problems" are?  Thanks. I'd like to know befo...
WHY IS THERE SO MUCH HATE FOR THE HIGH END GEAR ON AUDIO GEAR?
I'm a aerospace engineer working with a bunch of electrical engineers. I trust them that they know what they are doing. When it comes to audio gear, I asked them why two things (tubes or say capacitors) with exactly the same measured electrical va...
Looking for an all-in-one just-add-speakers streamer for my son to take to college
One thing to ask is whether he will be in a dorm or in an apartment? If in a dorm, I’d opt for the cheapest option discussed here - maybe the Bluesound Edge or Powernode (or even cheaper, one of those class-D streamer/amps by Arylic). My reasoning...
10 gauge power cord. Too much power for tube amp?
Yes, it's like using Cardas copper in interconnects (which I've read many science labs do between instruments). It might be overkill, but who is to say that using the best you can doesn't make a difference? Enjoy.  I love the idea of a dedicated 2...
10 gauge power cord. Too much power for tube amp?
@carlsbad2 yes, if you have a dedicated 10Ga service from your junction box then no reason not to use a quality power cord having the same gauge. (10Ga on average has about 36% less resistance than 12Ga for the same length). But the differences we...
Have you found your "End-Game" speakers yet? I have. And it feels so good!!!
For the amount of money I'm willing to spend, some JBL L100 Classics will likely be my "end game" speaker, but everyone is "recently" saying that open baffle designs are "da bomb" and never say never until you've heard some, so yeah, I might go th...
10 gauge power cord. Too much power for tube amp?
Electrical devices will attempt to draw whatever current they need - and no more than that. 12 Ga. is likely just fine for anything reasonable but having 10 Ga. won’t "hurt" anything. Just a bit overkill. I mean, your own house wiring from the jun...
Do you think driver “break in” is real?
I merely note that if Zu Audio can offer free break-in before they ship to you, at their price points, it seems pretty lame for more "upscale" manufacturers to not do the same.  Speakers ought to be turnkey components.  You buy them, you plug them...
Do you think driver “break in” is real?
Yes, break-in of any mechanical device is real. What is wrong is with manufacturers making YOU do the break in. Now, speaker guru Andrew Jones says that 90% of most break-in can occur in the first 10 hours for a well-designed driver. OK, that sou...
Help settle a streaming argument!
Hans Beekhuyzen on his YouTube channel has answered this question time and time again. The answer is that a better streamer will sound better to a higher end DAC compared to a lower end streamer into that same DAC in a revealing system. He has te...
Somewhat of an oxymoron - speaker stands for the floor for bookshelf speakers.
If you have cats, dogs, or small children it is imperative that the stands be strong, stable, and not liable to tipping. You didn’t mention the price range of your speakers which would figure into how much you would want to devote to stands. There...
Two questions to make you mad.
The ASML machine is producing chips, not music. End of story. People don't sit around listening to it print do they? A $62M rocket stage is "accurate enough" in what it does using "regular" cables, but nope, it isn't creating music either.
How easily can you distinguish between different DACs?
Sorry Jason, but all DACs do not sound alike any more than all turntable cartridges sound alike. Listen closely, pay attention to the sound and what you are hearing. Some DACs have better attack, decay, dynamic range, more musically accurate sound...
At what price is one considered an Audiophile.
$0. You are an audiophile if you love music, sounds, and notice and appreciate all the nuances you can experience in listening.  Steve Gutenberg knew he was an "audiophile" when he'd spend time just listening to the various qualities of hiss betwe...
Rumors of CD Demise Exagerated? New Hegel
Love streaming, but also love my CDs, vinyl albums, and even some old cassettes. The main issue I have with streaming, over buying a CD, is that I find something I really like, but then a few months later, I can't recall the artist's name or the n...
