What is your experience with the Spin Clean?
@jjbeason14 if new and lightly used, the Humminguru might do just fine along with using an anti-static brush. Good luck with it.  And yes, even new records do have a mold release agent on them that should be cleaned before playing. Replacing any p...
What is your experience with the Spin Clean?
Not wanting to be a fly in the ointment but I do want to mention that on at least some forums, and on some reviews, the Humminguru at $500 or so wasn’t seen as being "all that". For those of you with one and are happy with it, that’s great. I did...
How do you stop house guest from damaging your speakers?
Many of us don't have dedicated listening rooms. We have living rooms or large dens that have to serve the purpose. These rooms are where guests (and their kids) will be when they visit.  I'd advise to leave speaker grilles on at all times when y...
Opinion: Modern country is the worst musical genre of all time
@dayglow I'm sure it can be good. I have a friend from Argentina whose son is on his way to being an opera singer and I wish him the best.  I may give it (opera) another chance one day. Having liner notes would definitely be helpful. Is there a "m...
Opinion: Modern country is the worst musical genre of all time
Americana is great. Bluegrass can be great if you understand it. Modern country is what it is. I don't like it, preferring to get my country "fix" on classic country radio stations when I'm in the mood for it.  But by the same token, even though I...
How much does a DAC do the more expensive it is?
An obvious observation but I'll make it anyway:  In general, a more expensive DAC should be constructed better, inside and out, and in theory should last longer than less expensive ones.  Say compare the internal parts quality of one of the numero...
How much does a DAC do the more expensive it is?
@thyname wrote, "The specs on the op-amps are fabulous and digital engineers are inherently seduced by the beauty of the math story. There are minor differences in the sound quality between various op-amps, but it's kind of like the difference bet...
Is R.E.M. underrated by new music nerds?
A shout out to Don Dixon's wife, Marti Jones, who should have been bigger. I read that the record label only had the money to push one artist and chose Tracy Chapman instead.  Nothing wrong with Tracy at all, but it shows how which artists become ...
Is R.E.M. underrated by new music nerds?
I liked them from Murmur till Monster then sort of lost interest. If any of you haven't, check out Dead Letter Office. That's a really good album with some great covers that rise up to perhaps best the originals.  As an aside, I agree with Michael...
Intriguing Speakers From Germany
Sorry, but I record concerts.  Anyone who thinks microphones are accurate is smoking crack. Even Schoeps CMC-MK4 into a Sonosax preamp by someone who knows what they are doing in setting record levels and gain offer only an approximation of realit...
Has anyone noticed a slow down in sales?
With real world inflation running about 12%, if it was calculated the way it was during Jimmy Carter's time, many people are putting unnecessary purchases on hold.  I know I am. On the flip side, some would think that, "Hey, I'd better buy this or...
Qobuz hell
Just FYI for those in the U.S. who might not know: If you like Tidal (any paid tier, with or without MQA) you can get it for a yearly subscription through Best Buy "dirt cheap", and make it price competitive with any other streaming service. That’...
You know when you are dealing with a BS company....
I miss the days of Monster Cable.
Interesting situation! Do we need this....
All this may say something about the relative quality of the Fluance speakers and the drivers they use. I've never heard them...wasn't a fan of the yellow drivers just based on looks. Good luck with your project if you intend to finish it.
Interesting situation! Do we need this....
@thespeakerdude perhaps, but if they are soooo good, then you’d think people would be keeping them for use in a secondary system, or passing them down to relatives or friends, not pawning them off on eBay. Most speakers I have bought have been rep...
