One answer to an oft-asked question.
At lunch time I still listen to college radio stations (WSGE or WNCW) that often play new music in various genres to discover music beyond what Tidal recommends. I too sample the albums reviewed in Stereophile magazine. These stations also host a ...
My Caladan Impressons
@vthokie83 thank you, your thoughts and those of Wes above are great to contemplate regarding these. Thank you for taking the time to answer many of my questions. I also see that Steve Guttenberg just posted his Caladan review a few hours ago.   ...
my own experience with Tekton Design
Glad you found something to make you happy again. Ah, so aggravating these days to only get to hear a very few brands or models in person at a bricks and mortar store.  I do have Audio Advice about 1 hour and 20 minutes from me, but of course bran...
My Caladan Impressons
@wester17 Thank you for your review and insights after owning them a month. These are right in my price range for what will be my "end game" speakers. I’m also considering the JBL L100 MK II for about $5K. I have some old AR 9 that these will be r...
It's the Cicadas!
@mashif If you hear a low frequency hum that might be the aliens landing. Look out your window. 😏
Did anyone else disconnect thier equipment due to the geomagnetic storms?
This was nowhere near the Carrington event in intensity. And the electrical grid of today is far more resilient than anything in the early 1900s, with load balancing, and a lot of microprocessors in control. I’d only *maybe* worry a bit if I were...
How often, and how, do you clean your stylus?
I clean mine *most* of the time after playing both sides of an LP. I don’t have an ultrasonic cleaner for my records...only a "good" vacuum system. While I get them very clean, I find if I examine the stylus with a magnifying glass that yes, it do...
Streamers under $1500
Just want to chime in and say the world needs more streamers in the <$1500 category with either USB or I2S OUTPUTS. I see the Silent Angel M1T streamer/transport has a USB output. Their MU Streamer/DAC has I2S output. Wish more manufacturers wo...
little big win
@grislybutter yeah, I mean there's use cases for cheap Bluetooth speakers, but for home use, active powered speakers elevate the quality much better.  And hey, like you mentioned, she now can hear a soundstage and "space"...something maybe she nev...
Speakers On Wheels?
I don't know how heavy your speakers are, but in my experience, if you are going to make a dolly of your own, just be sure to correctly size the casters so they are robust and can easily take the load.  Years ago I built a stereo component rack us...
little big win
At least you didn’t "upgrade" her to Bose... ;-) BTW, I have one of those "larger than mug sized" JBL Bluetooth speakers. No, it isn’t "audiophile" but hey, for playing near a pool or at a family outdoor gathering it ain’t that bad. It is waterpro...
Streamer only
@mclinnguy Interesting from the Antipodes article. According to that, even S/PDIF can (but maybe not always depending on the DAC) be reclocked by a downstream DAC.  All I know is that both USB and I2S are asynchronous in nature, and I2S keeps the...
Record player sounds out of tune and "wavy"
+1 for the Fluance RT82 recommendation for your $300 max price range. Also look at U-Turn Orbit Turntables in that price range.  While a belt will be cheap for this problem child turntable, that might not be the problem - but still worth a try. It...
Worst Speakers Ever??
LOL. Laughing and commiserating with all these comments. But the "worst" pair of speakers were those Radio Shack included with their "all-in-one" systems of the late 1970s. Made of 1/4" plywood (if it was that thick) with no bracing. Later on I g...
If you have a nice system why do you really need room treatments?
Oh yes. Put your stereo at any price into an untreated gym and play it really loud.  If you enjoy it that way, more power to you.
