Is there a Solid State amp that can satisfy a SET guy?
Not 300b, but check out Audio Mirror (Vlad B.) 45w SET monoblocks, based on 6C33C tube. I have a pair mated with a deHavilland Mercury III pre-amp  and the sound is wonderful. Clean, clear, not edgy at all, and very addictive. The amps drive 88dba...
Best debut album
+1 on mhe with Metheny’s Bright Size Life...but have to say Captain Beyond...a heavy mind-meld with the cosmos
Subwoofers - Front Firing or Down Firing - Which Sounds Best?
Get 2 subs. If your speakers could go as low as you wanted, there would be a driver in each speaker to accomplish that. For a few years I tried to integrate a single sub in my system, different ways of connecting it, even different subs, always fi...
Non Analytical Sounding DAC Upgrade- Budget $1,500 or less
I am 95% vinyl and have budget digital in my main rig but I would suspect, since I have not heard it, the Audio Mirror DAC is very good. I would have given it a try but it was out of my digital budget. My view is based on reading user reviews of t...
Most Musical 6NS7 tube for a Preamp?
Buy a used with remote deHavilland Ultraverve. I got a used one without the remote and immediately sold my 12Au7 based pre amp. The mods bigkidz mentioned sound nice and you may can have them done within your budget if you buy used. And thanks for...
Jazz for someone who doesn't like jazz.
@n80. Excellent suggestions above. I see you are near Charlotte. I live in Columbia and have lots of the above recommendations on vinyl. You are more than welcome to come listen. Also, go to the jazz event you mentioned. You can’t go wrong with th...
Great country recording
Blue Country Heart, by Jorma Kaukonen. Some great contemporary acoustic players. Check it out.
seeking recommendations for a preamp
As atmasphere said, get a 6sn7 line preamp. I had a 12au7 based line preamp for several years. The 6sn7 sounded much better. I would also get a separate phono pre as it will give you more flexibility on price, features, and upgradeability, etc. Fo...
How do you sort your LPs?
Alphabetical by group name or artist last name, starting top row, left to right, top to bottom in the cabinet. For both Lps and CDs. I have a separate cabinet for those few hundred for sale I take to record shows.
Getting it on with Prog

I Need Some Opinions...
I think you should consider your sources while making your analog direction decision. Do you have a large number of lps in good condition to play? Or are you ready to buy more? Are you willing to learn how to properly set up a cartridge? Or do you...
Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
+1 pfeiffer, as I said earlier - you can buy a used Ultraverve.

Seriously considering tube preamp…opinions?
I understand. Once I heard the Ultraverve I contacted her to build me a modified Mercury 3 pre. She was great to work with, period. I am keeping both preamps. There are many folks like her in the industry. We read about them all the time here on A...
