Advice on SUT for Koetsu Rosewood - EAR MC-4, Slagle/EMIA, other
I sent an email to David Berning to see if he would potentially advise.

Yeah I lean toward copper not silver, though I am sure there are always exceptions. I cant drop $2400 though so need to either find a used standalone sut or replace the suts in my preamp.

Raul  I was only reacting to your suggestion of getting rid of my koetsu cartridge and your comment about tubes to the other poster. I think our respective objectives in this Pursuit might be very different.  but again I really appreciate you taki...
Advice on SUT for Koetsu Rosewood - EAR MC-4, Slagle/EMIA, other
I just found the info on my preamp's internal SUTs. They are Jensen JT-347-AXT Step Up transformers (1:12 ratio configured). Given these and overall MC gain of only 64dB, does this explain my lack of dynamics with the Koetsu Rosewood Signature (....
SOTA Cosmos and other models - lean sounding?
Mijostyn: There may be audiophiles who care mainly about accuracy to the recording, but two things I believe:1. I am not one of them.2. Chasing accuracy to the "source" is a red herring, unless one happened to be at the recording session. I would ...

Mike: It never occurred to me until I read your post but maybe I could replace the Jensen Transformers in my preamp.  or maybe you are suggesting just adding these if there is room?   I don't understand this stuff well enough to do it myself but I...
SOTA Cosmos and other models - lean sounding?
Thanks for the great feedback, all! Also pondering a used Basis Debut or an EAT turntables as alternatives to my SOTA. Any opinions are welcome. It would be psychologically challenging for me to move away from the vacuum hold down, now that I have...

Thanks guys. Mulveling: what sonic changes do you you recall when upgrading your Star III TO A Nova? This is likely exactly the upgrade I would do.Thanks
Audio Logic DAC cap rolling... replace 5.0 value with 4.7 ?
Erik: My preamp is a Thor TA-1000. Input impedance is 250kohm. The DAC is transformer coupled and these are the only sizeable caps so I imagine they are the signal caps... not sure if that is the same as "ouput" caps? My ignorance...Why wouldn't t...
Koetsu Rosewood - Best/safest way to clean stylus
I think using a gold coin is a great idea because we all know that the more it costs the better it works. But on a serious note and getting back to my earlier point in this thread I am in the other camp on weighing  down the Magic Eraser. If on occ...
Koetsu Rosewood - Best/safest way to clean stylus
Magic Eraser comes in rectangles...  Shaped like a sponge. Be very careful using them. I would not try to use them like sandpaper, moving the Eraser against the stylus. It is extremely porous and will grab onto the needle. I keep the Eraser fixed ...
Jelco 850 total weight
Yes but the springs seem to be fine for now and I would like to avoid taking it apart if I can help it. Part of my need to check weight stems from advice I have received that some arms are simply too heavy for the sota suspension even if it were b...
Koetsu Rosewood - Best/safest way to clean stylus
Fjn04... I was kinda thinking the opposite -- that it might be better to give the ME less inertia, not more. If the stylus sticks due to friction I am guessing it would be less damaging if the ME lifted slightly rather than presenting an immovable...

Millercarbon, don't worry. Duane can take you to the airport.Lewm: Yes there can be no more than VTF force while it's going down. It is going up we are wondering about. You would think there would be nothing to "catch", given the shape of the styl...
