The best separates between $2500-3000. Moving on from the original Rogue Sphinx Intg.. I used to own the Sphinx v.1 as well. I thought it was just ok. I liked the pre section a lot more than the power section. Found a 3 year old Odyssey Stratos Extreme off ebay for $800 and a used Jolida Fusion preamp for another $800. To put it pol...
Great bookshelf or small towers suggestions In a small room Merlin Tsm are the best I have had.
Is my room going to suck Update. Moved my gear into the basement. My merlins sound amazing down there. I'm glad they didn't sell when i had them posted. I have some oc703 panels hung around and a little bit of carpet I found. Next step is building some corner bass traps, ...
Can the KEF LS50 rock? imo speakers are genre biased to some extent. Imo if the op was not thinking of classical or jazz by the term rocking out but with rock music I would say they are not too impressive with this style of music.
Is my room going to suck got the descent headphone amp thing goin but can't really get into it unless I'm at work. I have 3 sets of good speakers that I am going to try out down there, winner take all. Losers get sold. No more purchases for a while. ;-)
Can the KEF LS50 rock? I heard them with rock at a dealer. Acoustic rock sounded pretty good. Electric rock not so much. Heavy Metal sounded jangly and thin. Every Dynaudio monitor I have heard has done well with rock. IMO Merlin TSMs do very well for any kind of music ...
Is my room going to suck Thanks for the suggestions. Never thought about the long wall but I will try that also. Hopefully I'll get some time to get it all put together in the next couple weeks. Figured I will start with laying just a big carpet remnant on the floor and h...
KEF Reference 1 any owners? I used to own the predesecor the 201/2. It is a wonderful sounding speaker but is very ruthless imo to poor recordings because of its high resolution. It can be warm or bright depending on the recording. From what I have read the ref 1 is the same...
Upgrade from Proac Response 1SC? Cooper52, I happen to have a very nice pair of Merlin TSM mmm on Audiogon right now. They are wonderful speakers and priced right if you are interested. Only reason I am parting with them is my wife decided I'm back in the big room since it is wal...
Shopping for speakers at $1500-$2000 is a chore. I've owned bookshelf speakers from Dynaudio Focus 140, KEF 201/2, Paradigm S2/S4, Usher Be718, and others I am not thinking of. Some used newer version TSMs for around $1,500 is about as close to state of the art you are going to get from 50hz up ...
What is the best HEAVY METAL speaker? Golden Ear Triton 1 is IMO an excellent metal speaker. Great mid and lower bass. Not fatiguing at all and fast enough to keep up. Robust sounding. Even though fairly efficient you will want an amp with some balls for metal. I played a lot of Opeth...
Merlin TSM MMM to MMM BME I did hear about Bobby's unfortunate passing and yes it appears at least for now Merlin is not taking on any new work. I have a lead on a dealer who may be able to do the upgrade if the consensus is that it is worthwhile.
Golden Ear Triton 1 what front ends match well Scott, How are you liking your Sony? How does it compare to others you have had? Same question for you Mr Bill. Thanks
record out on integrated amp I was very suprised as I was dissapointed in the performance with the ss amp. One thing is that I based the ss performance with only an hour or so on the unit. When I hooked the tube amp up it had been on overnight. I do not believe the buffer has...
record out on integrated amp In case anyone is interested. I picked up a Yaqin Sd-CD3 tube buffer off of amazon. On my SS amp it did not make a huge diffeence. It was a slightly softer sound and reduced the hardness in the high frequencies when pushed. Overall a slight but au... |
