Inexpensive Streaming I have both a Wiim Mini and Pro. Both are excellent buys at the price, and even more impressive, are one of the easiest to set up streamers out there. They aren't perfect, but here's my evaluaton of the pros and cons. Pros: great price, compact,...
Troubleshooting Audio Interference (Buzz/Hum/Static) One simple thing to start with is to buy an outlet tester at the hardware store (or Amazon) and test the outlets in your home to make sure that they are wired correctly and grounded. It is surprising how often the hot and neutral wires are switch...
Ohm Walsh 2000 regrets How are Maggie 1.7's a "downsize" from Ohm 2000s? (Or did you mean you just moving from two pairs of speakers to one?) I had a pair of Maggie 1.6QRs for several years and really liked them, but they are far more picky about the room and positio...
What are my options for music files, CD rips, and a DAC all-in-one solution? Also look at smallgreencomputer.com. They've been around a long time and have several options with internal drives for storage, and some have a CD drive for ripping. Prices are quite reasonable for the quality.
DAC for second system Consider the Schiit Modi Multibit 2. It has a very small footprint and is getting excellent user reviews over at Head-Fi.org -- its the subject of a long thread. I'm really enjoying mine. The only catch is there is now a 10 to 12 week wait for them.
Recommended Server? If you are not downloading music, how will you be using the server? Only as storage for ripped CDs? Or as a streamer for a music service such as Tidal or Qobuz, etc? Or both?
Dac: Old vs New The best thing for anyone to do is to read the many reviews available on the various models in your price range and then buy one of the likely candidates from a place that allows returns. Some will give you all your money back if your return it w...
Looking For Sound Controller Lot of detail missing in terms of make/models involved, but it could be that you are plugging a dynamic mike into the 3.5 mm line level input. Line level inputs look for 1 or 2 volts from the source (e.g., the output level of a CD player or tuner...
where and how to find blank "music" CD's A few seconds on Amazon gave this result -- 100 disk pack of audio CDs for $23.29 (a shade more than the same product in data CDRs.) BTW, you can find the owners manual here: https://manualmachine.com/teac/lpr400/437513-user-manual/ It has detai...
Good-sounding audio components? At your price range, you should check out the DACs and headphone amps from Schiit. They have some great sounding items available in your price range, though they do not offer CD players.
Bluesound Powernode 2i vs Bel Canto C5i Always interesting as to how a three year old thread can pop back to life after sitting dormant. For what it's worth, I passed on the Powernode and have also moved on from the Bel Canto C5i.
Good-sounding audio components? No one has mentioned the obvious point yet, but one of the first things you need to do is decide what you can afford. Then, see what your options are within your budget. While it doesn't hurt to listen to high end systems out of your price range,...
Apple Classical Music launching @kiwiscott -- still not sure what you are asking for other than perhaps a software program that can read what mood you're in. In a way, isn't that what a playlist is? A preselected collection of these albums for background music when you have fr...
Apple Classical Music launching @kiwiscott -- I use Qobuz through LMS (Logitech Media Server) and am able to easily build playlists that include albums without having to add track by track. It also integrates my local collection along with Qobuz material. And, while I don't bu...
Apple Classical Music launching >> "catering to classical music lovers who, like me, are frustrated with the “song” based digital services, where composition’s movements are treated as individual tracks, rather than as part of a larger whole..." I'm not sure what they are... |
