Ready to try vinyl
While pshcyicanimal is right in saying tha tyou don't have to spend around 2,000 to have a nice turntable, I disagree with his following comment:"You must not go the belt drive route or you'll waste a LOT of money and end up with frustration"Don't...
totem arro or rainmaker or von schweikert vr1
I'd also go for the Arro's. I don't love NHTs, and while I like the Rainmaker's and VR-1s, I think the Arro is the is most impressive. The comment above that their narrowness could make them easy to tip over is applicable to many speakers (and tho...
Ready to try vinyl
Well, since you're just getting into this I agree that you probably want to buy a rig with a working cartridge that's already set up, that way you don't have to do all the mounting and aligning yourself. The cartridge and the stylus are seperate a...
Ready to try vinyl
If it were me, looking back I would get the VPI Scout (I didn't have the money at the time, so it wasn't a possiblity) because it's something which you can upgrade if you choose (scoutmaster...superscoutmaster, etc.), but is truly stellar in its s...

Ready to try vinyl
Well, now you're really screwed. If you think the tables ar expensive, just wait till you start buying software. hopefully a lot of other people will pick up on this thread because while I know a thing or two, this site is awash with some truly kn...
Ready to try vinyl
First off, it's good to rely on others responses (actually...ignore everyone elses except mine...j/k) and to read reviews of the products they recommend, but if you're willing to take the plunge into vinyl then you should do yourself the favor of ...
What's your latest "Discovery"
I'm stuck listening to headphones while in abroad and it's an interesting way to get to know new material (and stuff you've listened to before, at that).I just got the complete Blue Note recordings of Grant Green with Sonny Clarke (a 2-disc set) a...
Can I put receiver and CD player on top of my sub?
Sorry to be a Nay-sayer, but if you are going to put your gear on top your sub, then I would say putting zip-lock bags filled with sand is dangerous at best. This is in your bedroom, right? Well, what happens if you accidentally spill one of the b...
7/7 London
Thus far no one has bought up the aforementioned elections except the people who post in favor of bush. I was rather questioning what he's done since in office, which is clearly not beneficial to anyone right now. I notice a lot of bush supporters...
7/7 London
I can sadly say that I've now lived through two terrorist attacks. I was in NY for 9/11, which was and remains a life-changing experience. I'm currently finishing up a dissertation in London, and one bomb went off at the station near my house, and...
Can I put receiver and CD player on top of my sub?
I would definately NOT recommend this. Not for damage necessarily, but your sound will suffer terribly from all the vibrations.
Better sound quality than the I-pod?
If you're just using a player for listening when you're comuting or in the car, etc, then having an optical out serves little purpose. The iPod is superior in every way to the iRiver. I've listened to both extensively (my girlfriend owns the 120) ...
Blue Note Jazz Recordings
I started buying the RVGs when they came out and found that Tower Records frequently holds jazz sales that reduce the RVGs even further...plus I think they do free shipping on their website. I agree with foster about XRCD for almost every type of ...
Classe CP50 or Sim Audio???
As you put it, synergy is going to answer the question, so what's the rest of your system like. I've never owned sim but have heard a lot, and never found it to be polite or layed back, but I've heard it mostly with totem and triangle, so it's com...
