mr millercarbon... you’re so cynical. why do you post here?To learn. For example I learn who is capable of reading and thinking and who is having a hard time with it. i don’t think you’re having fun with audio. I get PM'd all the time from peopl...
Separates or Integrated? What makes more sense?
I learned long ago just how hard it is for separates to match the performance of a good integrated. Of course no one can say for sure without doing a lot of comparisons, but I would bet money no one can do it. Not without spending a whole lot more...
Bose 901
There are more satisfied drinkers of Bud than higher end craft ales. There are more satisfied wearers of Timex than Rolex.  See if you can spot the pattern.
Phono Stage Gain Question
Does the position of attenuation matter? The answer in general is no. If you really start splitting hairs though.... what's happening in the big picture is you're amplifying a very weak signal in the phono stage, then attenuating it in the pre-am...
Silly question, but I’ll ask it anyway.
Wouldn’t work for interconnects. There is only one conductor covered by a very high voltage rated insulation. You need two conductors for an interconnect. A supply and a return. Yes but the real MacGyver would know this and use two spark plug wire...
Upsampling
Same purpose as all other tech specs, to get you thinking they matter. The more thinking the less listening. Ad copy is a lot easier to write than it is to make sound quality you can hear.
Linear Tracker ...I was wondering
Is there a not too expensive (less than $¹⁰⁰⁰) and good linear tracking tonearm that I could mount on my SL1200MK5? Depends on what you mean by "good". If you mean one that works reliably and fits on the table then maybe, yes, you can probably fi...
Separates or Integrated? What makes more sense?
No, I would not get one like Pass or Luxman. Come on. Get serious. That kind of money, I would get something good. Which coincidentally is just what I been working on. Which also coincidentally was exactly $10k, but I notice just now they raised i...

Just wondering, but can you make an interconnect with spark plug wire? Why yes, MacGyver, yes you can. But it would be a lot more impressive to make one with pencil and paper. Graphite is conductive, you know.  Oh wait! I know! What about Wrigley'...
I wouod like a power cord recomendation that's in the budget category
The gold standard at that price level is the Synergistic Research Master Coupler. So good they command around $300 even after having been made for like 30 years now. You might find one for $250, or more, but should be able to find one $350 or less...
Bose 901
@millercarbon............Were they successful? So you really don’t know then? Okay. The Bose 901 was introduced in 1968. Back then we didn’t have anything like the standards we do today. Nowadays when someone says however many watts we know (or be...
Do you ever have to re-break-in speakers?
I've listened to them for a few weeks now and I swear they sound better now. Right. I'm sure they do.Do new-ish speakers stiffen up again if left unused for a long period of time? Or are my ears just getting used to them? No, and its not only s...
Anyone try the new Synergistic Research Orange UEF Duplex?
Crickets. Imagine it would be like going from Blue to Orange Fuse, more of everything including a very satisfying sense of refinement. In other words pretty much like everything else I have ever tried from SR in like 30 years. If you need an outle...
I need advice for power cords
hickamore reasonably asks: Several posts here make the fundamental claim that upgrading house wiring & outlets should be top priority, and that until this has been addressed, any comparison of audio component power cords is an idle exercise...
Probably the most High End DJ Mixer ever made...
When I saw "DJ Mixer" I was thinking more along the lines of Waring or Oster, maybe real lime in the margarita.
