Doubting Sound Treatment ?
Sound travels in waves that are longer for lower frequencies. Because of this short wavelength high frequencies can be absorbed by thin panels, while longer wavelength bass frequencies require much larger panels and shapes. So whether a 1" or 2" t...
Raw Vinyl Shortage - Where do we stand?
The only shortage I can see is people with the skills to turn the vinyl into high quality pressings.
I have been a stickler about keeping power cables away from signal cables...on equipment ?
That's an insult not an argument.
Constant noisy tubes maybe go solid state?
After many years (20+) trying different tubes my go-to now is JJ from tubestore.com Not because they are the absolute best - although they are better than most I've tried that's just me in my Melody. But I have never had a problem with any JJ tube...
Budget system for building retro look console
Have you tried connecting the tuner, CD or MP3 direct into the amp? That would test whether the pre-amp is the problem. Then connect something else to the speakers, another amp or whatever, and drive them to the same volume level. That would tell ...
Millercarbon's Mega Vibration Control Journey
Limited time and money. So everyone knows the rack and everything else we're talking about here is a compromise of some kind. I'm talking about the rack because that's when I really started thinking seriously about vibration control. Which is fu...
Planar speaker characteristics
Here’s a good video from a listener with a lot of experience talking about Maggies and how different speakers sound and one that combines the best of them all. Which owning a pair I of course completely agree with him. https://youtu.be/7RxRTFx6Cd0...
I have been a stickler about keeping power cables away from signal cables...on equipment ?
Jeff Smith from Silversmith Audio offered this on another discussion group concerning his Fidelium ribbon speaker cables: he said to wrap them around power cord and hook them up to your speakers and see if you can hear ANY noise without running a ...
Adding a sub woofer?
Regardless of Millercarbon's snarky condescension (per usual), RELs are NOT inherently "lumpy" Never said they were. Its the room. All rooms smaller than the lowest wavelength are inherently lumpy. What part of that do you not understand?
Amplifier warm up
I have a new warm-up ritual now thanks to this thread. Before this I would turn on the amp, motor controller, and phono stage, all at least a half an hour before listening. Now I also let the motor/platter run almost as long.  This has really made...
More power for moderate listening levels?
That sounds like a recommendation to change speakers to your fav. As opposed to choosing what is bad, I guess. Like tuberculosis.
I have been a stickler about keeping power cables away from signal cables...on equipment ?
I also believe, power switches and it's wiring, should be designed at the rear of a component, for the reduction of ac related noise, even though it might be an inconvenience with it's daily operation. My Herron VTPH2A power switch is on the ba...
One year down, two to go. What's the longest you have saved for one component?
I've never saved up for a component. Nor have I ever bought anything on credit. Well except the house. But not even a car. Credit cards paid in full every month. What I do instead is save. Invest. Save and invest. While avoiding at all costs debt....
Opinions wanted on cantilever alignment
Looks to me like the cantilever comes out straight from the motor (ie the cantilever is straight not bent) but the whole motor assembly is mounted crooked. Nothing you could do could cause this, and so it shouldn't matter its been a month, its a m...
Millercarbon's Mega Vibration Control Journey
Thank you, oldhvymec, made my day. How right you are. mahgister- The impactful results of resonance/vibration controls embeddings is very audible....The problem is the way to reach results is a complex problem... Yes indeed we are on the same p...
