Any other Pipe And Slippers Audiophiles out there?
I go 73 this year me too.......but not for 10 months. slippers for the colder 8 months, a blanket always handy. mostly bare feet the warmer 4 months.  never-ever on the intentional ingesting of smoke. occasional variety of adult beverages. we...
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
transparent is not enough for a solid state amplifier, musically complete, grain less and flowing are the challenges. these are relative things. not absolutes. however transparent does seem to satisfy many solid state amplifier owners. it's abou...
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
Can you do transistor rolling ? @inna some solid state allows for adjustment of negative feedback. the darts have zero negative feedback, and that matters a lot in it’s musical flow and lack of grain and lack of solid state dryness. tube rol...
Dealers with excellent listening rooms?
thanks @tomic601 for the kind words. enjoyed your "sane and near sane" comment. :-) for sure, many have journeyed to my room over the years to hear specific gear in my room instead of a dealer showroom someplace. a great part of the hobby all aro...
Dealers with excellent listening rooms?
a rare beast. for a number of reasons. any room where gear is frequently moved in and out will be less than ideal. or a room with multiple speakers will not be ideal. better listening rooms need to mature with stable gear. odds are against it. but...
Goodbye Everyone
@elliottbnewcombjr always enjoyed your posts. best wishes to a fellow retiree, keep finding fun and comradery. someplace. we all need that. as a 20+ year Audiogon’er i miss the days where the system pages were mixed into the other thread posts ...
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
Tubes = distortion + noise. They do not belong in a reference system.  @helomech  not all tube amps are created equal, and not all listeners have the same system aspirations, not all rooms are the same size, and not all speakers need the same...
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
What kind of music do you mostly listen to ? @inna everything. i graduated from High School in 1969, so i’m first a 60’s and 70’s rock guy and do listen to that some. but i’ve grown over the last 30 years to love jazz and classical. and over ...
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
When I say reference I don’t mean Pass amps with some lower end Wilson speakers. Just because you have a good sound doesn’t mean necessarily that it is a reference sound. There are preferences and subjective elements and there is also objectivity....
"I'm a believer"
I’ve been around high end audio for a great number of years. I have had the opportunity to hear, at shows, at audiophile friends homes and at audio shops, a great number of high end speakers: old and new, from the low, to the ultra megabuck price...
Anyone has a reference system where amplification is SS ?
is this a tube verses solid state thread? must be a slow day at work for the original poster. wants to watch a food fight.
Speaker Efficiency
what are you gaining? and what are you losing? when you put a low powered mismatched amp to a hard to drive speaker???? how large is your room? how loud do you listen? how close do you sit? how important is space and scale and the lowest octave? ...
What is meant exactly by the description 'more musical'?
some amps are about the sound; meaning you are more aware of pieces of the sound....bass.....detail.....high frequencies.....maybe impact and aggressive beat. it might sound very clean and even scrubbed a little. note decay can be clipped. certain...
What percentage of digital vs. analog?
To those who have large classical record collections, what percentage of the time do you spend listening to your records? i own about 5000 Classical pressings, of my total approximately 12,000 pressing collection. and my vinyl listening is 75% ...
Anyone else using slugs instead of fuses? Comments on metals used and sound please
i don’t use slugs in place of fuses, although my amplifiers come with thermal couplers instead of fuses. which eliminates the noise factor there. and my preamp is battery powered so no fuses there either. what i did do relevant to slugs is my Equ...
