What happened to my room acoustics @lanx0003 , Then you would know every bass guitar sounds different. This issue is not up for contention. It is an easily measurable phenomenon and not a matter of my opinion. Porting woofers is a design principle destined for the bowels of some...
What happened to my room acoustics @lanx0003 What you are listening to is distortion, bass resonance. Little loudspeakers do this all the time intentionally to give the impression of bass. I can understand wanting more bass power and weight. The best ways to do this are Digital S...
Feickert Volare + Shick 9 + Hana Umami Red That will do fine! The only addition I can think of would be an isolation base.
What happened to my room acoustics @lanx0003 It is always best to use three spikes. They should be driven clean through any carpet and padding into the plywood. Three spikes on tile is OK as long as you lower the speaker gently. The best digital signal processing units sound li...
ATC buying advice @lonemountain I'm afraid you are totally incorrect. Room correction is not an excuse to avoid room treatments. The best way to control the room is to use speakers that have controlled directionality. I have never measured a perfect loudspeaker...
What happened to my room acoustics @lanx0003 If you have a good floor the last thing you want to do is decouple the speaker from the floor. Ideally you would bolt it down to the floor. Spikes are the usual option. Why? Newton's 3rd law. You need a very massive, fixed mass (the fl...
Magnetar @mahler123 It will output DVD A and Blu Ray audio via the digital output and they sound great. It will only output SACD through it's analog output and I have not listened extensively to that yet. I only have about twenty SACDs and I avoid them n...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound? @phusis Darn, I like your philosophy. I also like your system. Please explain what you mean by, "actively configured"? The only thing I do not like is running the 15" woofer up to 600 Hz. I assume this is because of the horn's low frequency cut...
Sub Wiring It is the wire to the driver directly that has to be short. You are wiring to the higher impedance of the amplifier input so it should not matter. If the subs have a balanced input it is far superior to run a balanced cable from the preamp.
Does a record player make that much of a difference?? I added a finger lift to a few of the mounting plates of my Schroder CB. They are titanium wire and heat shrink. I can not hear a difference between modified and unmodified plates, but since I do not have two identical cartridges I can not do a di...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound? @bubba12 I think that depends on the line. Many manufacturers save their best work for their top offering. Franco Serblin has passed on. For those who do not know who he was, he was Sonus Faber's chief designer. His Ketema is his assault on SOTA...
Does a record player make that much of a difference?? @joshindc Quite the contrary. A tonearm am cartridge can not perform at their best on a less than optimal turntable. Making any mechanical device "disappear" in the context of a very sensitive vibration measurement device is not a chore for the ...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound? @daveyf None of the megabuck systems I have heard were anywhere near worth the money. The size of speakers can be misleading. From LS3 5As to monster Wilson's or Magicos it all comes down to one tweeter. It is mostly the visual overload of these...
Old records. You've got it RV. It use to be somewhat predictable. Classic good to great, pop not so much. Commercial pressings of modern music still have much to be desired. There are new smaller companies that are doing an excellent job of making quiet pressi...
Does a record player make that much of a difference?? @joshindc First of all, how committed are you to records. Do you have a large collection? The reason I ask is going to the next step is not cheap and if you do not go that far you will not appreciate much of a difference. Turntables have to meet... |
