Transimpedance has too much gain? @gochurchgo I had a look at the AT's specs, imp 10 ohms, output 0.3 mv. You definitely do not have a gain problem. That impedance is at the upper limit for a transimpedance stage. As impedance goes up gain drops. I assume other sources do not ha...
Transimpedance has too much gain? I have been using a transimpedance stage for almost a year. Too much gain is not a characteristic I have encountered. If anything I would not mind even more. "Hard to listen to" usually occurs in the 3 to 4 kHz region where sibilance is a problem.
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system I have a very fragile ego. I'm going to go cry in a glass of Tequila.
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system @mirolab And you obviously do not understand digital signal processing. A number has meaning, distortion does not. That number represents amplitude, nothing else. When you change that number you change amplitude in a specific way. Distortion in ...
Why don't we tire of music? Most movies I only watch once. I watched Brazil twice. I watched A Clockwork Orange 3 or 4 times.
Equalizer in a Hi Fi system @tlcocks The BACCH-SP is a computer program which cancels "crosstalk" by DSP. It is either Apple or Windows specific. It is not a preamp and does not have EQ capability. It is said to make the image more holographic. It also measures the system ...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound? @phusis There seems to be a genital competition here. It has been my experience that most persons, lacking exposure, really have no idea. They like Hollandaise sauce but have never had real homemade Hollandaise. The trick is to leave the butter ...
SOTA STAR Sapphire Turntable Care and Feeding @jrcotner There is a neoprene tube that connects the vacuum pump to the turntable. That can be as long as you want. I am not sure what they did with the older Stars. The new units have the power supply in the pump and there is an umbilical cord ...
Bob Robbins' setup guide @nixanthrope I use a type of speaker very few people know what to do with, an 8 foot tall, line source dipole. Whatever works best for you.
Bob Robbins' setup guide There is no such thing as a "locked center image"which is a sure sign Bob Whatever does not know what an image is or how to listen. There is no end to the BS surrounding this hobby.
Turntable choice for mono records I do not even use a mono switch. I play mono records on the same table I play everything else. I do use a separate cartridge for 78s which is mandatory because the groove is much larger. Modern styluses on high end stereo cartridges cause less re...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound? @ phusis All quite correct. However, nobody in their right mind would run them that way. It would damage your ears. The real immediate limiting factor is the woofer. Run full range the woofer will start doubling when pushed too hard which is very...
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound? @phusis Sorry guy, but you are wrong here. Run full range you are correct but not high passed at 100 Hz, 48 dB/oct. The little woofers become a super midrange driver. I have set up many of these systems and they handle peaks absolutely fine up t...
Room acoustics basics Odeon Room Acoustics Software. Their site is very informative.
Big speakers, are they really the best way to get great sound? @phusis I live with 8 foot tall electrostatics and you would be surprised. With enough power (200 watts/ch) and crossed out at 100 Hx 48 dB/oct the little suckers (LS3 5As) will punch it out louder than anybody needs. As a system for people who ... |
