The dangerous world of Reel-to-Reel Tape
All I can say is that IMHE, with modern digital recordings, High Res digital is superior to analog R2R. I am being given an old Nagra portable deck. I expect it will be more of a display item than anything. It is a beautiful thing, precision to th...
Going from MM to MC
@rauliruegas  Where have you been? I was starting to worry! @mal11963  The MP 500 is a fine cartridge for the money. High output cartridges are always a better value. My favorite so far has been the Soundsmith Voice but it is $3000. Comparing t...
Polishing a Micro Seiki RT 3000G Gunmetal platter
@horsestuff   The orbital polisher will fling polish all over the place unless you are very experienced with it. The Menzerna Polishing Cream works on all metals and you will need very little elbow grease with it. The tarnish will rub right off. ...
I found the best way to recycle my old tubes!
Shoot, I have enough tubes to light up Times Square.
Tweak Pink Himalayan Salt Lamps.
I have had a Salt lamp for 10 years. As far as I can tell it makes no difference in sound quality. It also very slowly disappears. I wonder where the salt goes. It was a gift from a friend. Supposed to help my arthritis or such. It did not do that...

Absolutely not! The Ortofon and the Lyra are far better cartridges. I would lean towards the Delos here if the naked cantilever does not scare you. If it makes you nervous the Ortofon Quintet Black is also an excellent cartridge. Good choices.
Do you adjust your subwoofer
@crwindy  It is not personal at all. The settings for music and cinema should be exactly the same if a system goes down low in the right manner. One uncorrected REL 510 is already 6 dB down at 20 Hz. Getting it flat down to 20 Hz would require qu...

@riccitone  A second sub will do a whole lot. The only limitation on subwoofer size and numbers is the room you have for them. There are excellent drivers available today that can operate in very small enclosures, you just need more power. I advi...
Polishing a Micro Seiki RT 3000G Gunmetal platter
Guys, I think what @horsestuff has in mind is removing the tarnish from the metal, like polishing silver. There are hundreds of metal polishes out there. I personally like Menzerna Polishing Cream. It is a rub on, wipe off product, a cotton or mi...
Sound Stage and Imaging
@riccitone  You are absolutely right. I have set up systems with LS3 5As on stands with subwoofers and blind folded you would think you were listening to much larger speakers. They also image better than many larger speakers and there is less enc...

Do you have more choices of crossover points? With one subwoofer you can not go as high as 100 Hz because it will allow you to localize the sub which is not good. You have to use at least two subs. But, you can probably take it as high as 80 Hz if...

@kraftwerkturbo , I thought you were using outboard subwoofers, crossed at 50 Hz? No you do not want to mess with a speakers internals. My point is asking a driver that is handling 350 Hz to do 20 Hz caused  the driver to Doppler distort a most s...
Garrard 301 motor and rumble
@fsonicsmith  Thank you for the compliment. This is not a competition. You are obviously an antique collector, I am not. The OP's case is typical.  As for arms, the best Reed offset, pivoted arm is the 2G. The 2P's bearing arrangement is IMHO i...
