Sent Back the Pro-ject Turntable: What would be the best option in the $1800 range?
chakster, If the Technics turntables were the last turntables on earth I would sell all my vinyl and commit 100% to digital. Yes, they are beautifully made and that is the trap. They are also cheap and that is the hook. The SP 10 is just expensive...

Erik, no offence intended. I was referring to your comment about not having been at the original performance thus not being able to evaluate a system effectively.
Is Magnepan is coming out with it's own amplifier
Not a good idea for a speaker manufacturer to put out their own amp. Other electronics manufacturers will stop recommending their speakers and may even bad mouth them. Acoustat made that mistake and look where it got them.
SME 20/3 --- tonearm recommendations!?
Syntax. What is warp wow and how does the geometry of a tonearm's bearings affect this? Tonearm resonate. How do you split and minimize the resonance? Any idea?

noromance, an old $100 cartridge in an AR table would sound better than any cartridge in a GR. That big magnetic menace under the platter will scramble the coils of any cartridge. Direct Drive turntables sound awful and the cheep ones are even wor...
Direct or Reflect ... What's your flavor
Erik, I have been using dipole line sources exclusively since 1979 including ESLs, ribbons and planar magnetics. I have come to the conclusion that ESLs are the best. My next and probably last set of speakers is going to be Sound Labs Ultimate 845...

Erik, I think that is a cop out. There are great systems and there are systems with obvious defects. How much money was spent is no indication. I have heard beautifully balanced little near field systems that out perform huge systems with mega buc...

I agree Cleeds, it is just looking at different sides of the same coin. However, there are some important distinctions here. Duke and I illustrated why dipoles such as Maggies are so effective in presenting the venue captured in the recording. I r...

If you like ProJect get the 6 Perspex SB. Shop around for price. Down the line put a Clearaudio or Ortofon MM cartridge in there. It has a great arm for the money, better than the Technics.
AVAA Active Bass Traps
jag, the wavelength of 62 Hz is 18 feet. The only way you are going to stop that is by knocking down your rear wall. There are two ways you can work around this. The first is multiple subwoofers at least two preferably 4. Next is digital room cont...

Exactly right bryhifi. You are comparing line sources to point sources. There are very few if any Bi poles out there. That is a speaker that radiates from both sides in phase. Most of them, all the ones you mention are di poles. Both sides radiate...
Kate Bush Mastered for Vinyl 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Lowrider, they are specifically "Mastered for Vinyl" Says this right on the box. I have every version of Kates catalog from the original issues to high res digital. The only one I am missing is the original vinyl version of 50 words. But I do have...

I think the premise is sort of off. You always want to be at the venue. The question is where in the venue do you want to be. Very few recordings are done so that you feel the instrument is in the room with you. Many studio recordings are very sur...
Sota Comet Grounding question
MC, the motor and chassis should be connected to house ground. If there is not one already you might try connecting a wire to the main bearing then to the motor then to house ground. If this does not work call SOTA. They are usually very helpful.
Damping Plates
Correct geoffkait and absolutely none of it did anything for anybody. The audio fad of the day. It is a shame that legitimate manufacturers do not rail against this stuff. They don't because they have to remain politically correct to sell equipmen...
