Is there a such too much power for speakers?
It is not how fast you go but how you go fast. You want to go as fast as you can as good as you can. Get the goodest, biggest amp you can afford. There is no such thing as too much power. The more head room the better. Distortion kills more speake...
Home Theater Done Right: Millercarbon's System
I can explain that mahgister but I don't think you will like the explanation. There are times when my system sounds even more magical than usual having done absolutely nothing to it. Barometric pressure? Voltage running a little hotter than usual? ...

No argument mc. I have black out drapes in the room but because it is an open concept house and the room was designed to maximize bass performance there is no keeping ambient light out during the day time. No problem at night and there are no pilo...

Oh MC, I also use a Steward Greyhawk. Nice screen. It still is faded during daylight hours. Not sure if a laser projector will fix this. I doubt if it would ever match a flat screen TV but nobodies making one 130" diagonal....yet.
Home Theater Done Right: Millercarbon's System
I'll side with millercarbon here. Two channel audio is king. I do not have enough room or money for a separate theater. I have found for myself at least that as long as I have a BIG screen and a patently ridiculous amount of bass power I am a happ...
Disappointing vinyl purchase
pk, you would be surprised. If your TT sounds OK with other records then it is the pressing and I would return it if it is not something you desperately want.
Quad ESLs - I have some questions
thosb, keep an eye out on the used market. Both Acoustat and Sound Labs speakers are indestructible as long as nobody has gone into them. You might trip across a pair at a good price. Once you have lived with one of these there is no going back. Ev...
SME 20/3 --- tonearm recommendations!?
Come on syntax. That one is the runt of the litter. Why not just go for the Axiom? Right up there with your Rolex.
The Arm/Cartridge Matching Myth
noromance, that is very nice and I am sure Halcro loves music however people looking to learn read these posts and might get the impression that you can put any cartridge in any arm which all of us with experience know is a bad and sometimes disas...
best phono stage under 10k
I'm all for less equipment. See what you can sell your preamp for againt the price of an Atma-Sphere. It might make sense. My only problem with Herron is that Keith is getting on in age and it is a very small company. What happens when he passes?
Home Theater Done Right: Millercarbon's System
I sort of did mc. Your amp is right under your screen. Hard to hide when a movie is on. I don't even want a dim pilot light near the screen as any extraneous light affects the picture. Of course my old JVC DLP projector only throws 1000 lumens. I ...
SME 20/3 --- tonearm recommendations!?
Mohawk, the 4 point 9 will fit perfectly on the 20/3. The wire will come out to the inside of the tower. Not even close. However the 4 point 11 will work wonderfully on the 30/2. I use a 4 point 14 on a 30/12. I have a Koetsu Rosewood Signature Pl...

Syntax you have to be kidding.
best phono stage under 10k
Sax, go with a reputable company that has been around for a while. You like warm? Go for an Audio Research PH 9. You will never look back and will never need another phono amp.
Can you believe this?
No.
