trying to upgrade speakers
A home demo is absolutely the best way to go. Other ways to demo are to go see them at a dealer (per SoGood's comments) or attend an audio show (Rocky Mountain Audio Fest upcomming in Denver), or buy used, see if they perform to your standard, the...
Listening triangle
I've always had luck following the advice that said to make your listening distance the same as the speaker width. This is not an equilateral triangle, rather, a perpindicular line straight back from the center point of your speakers. Example: say...
What's your latest "Discovery"
One more... "Leaves of Grass" arranged by Fred Hersch and performed by Kurt Elling and Kate McGarry, words by Walt Whitman. This CD unfolds as if a play, moving from orchestral passages to spoken words to beautiful melodies. While not for everyone...
What's your latest "Discovery"
I just picked up a CD by Amos Lee. He has a voice that reminds me of a cross between Stevie Wonder and James Taylor. Some great simple acoustic cuts with solid vocals and terrific lyrics. Recorded on Blue Note doesn't hurt either. See it here: htt...
Searching Virtual Systems
Hey, I agree with you. I think many searches can be modified. Your suggestion is a good one, I know I'd be more likely to brouse systems if something like what you describe was adopted by Agon. In addition, I'd like to be able to search for used c...
AES/CARY Sixpac Mono Amps,Anyone have these?
I'm a happy owner for over a year now. I moved from solid state amps (Krell & Pass labs) to tubes over a year ago. The first tube move was a Manley Stingray integrated which was nice, then I moved to separates with the Sixpacs, and I'm not loo...
Review: Green Mountain Audio Callisto Monitor
Nice job on the review and the patience you have shown by not posting your thoughts until the 2000 hour mark! Mine have around 60 hours of break in and I'm honestly impressed with each listen. Perhaps the one point I relate to the most in your rev...
Which Hi-end monitor for near field listening
I'll support Elsned's recommendation for the Green Mountain Audio Callistos. The recommended set up for these is to have the distance between the speakers equal to your listening distance. My near field listening is at 9 feet, they dissapear bette...
Eva Cassidy newbee
Agreed, Live at Blues Alley is a must. Terrific talent.
Muddy Waters Tribute
Sorry I missed it, sounded like a great show. I just picked up a CD called "Alone & Acoustic" by Buddy Guy and Junior Wells, terrific. They make it sound so easy. I agree, Blues deserve much of the credit for much of today's music success.
Jazz Recommendations
There have been some wonderful recommendations here, let me add one that I just picked up last night: Joe Lovano "I'm all for you" on Blue Note. Terrific tenor sax jazz with a great supporting cast on bass, drums, piano. Superbly recorded, it migh...
Jolida JD100A Reliability
I owned the Jolida for a year. I bought it new and never had a problem. I don't play many scratched or burned CDs, but what I did play ran fine. I can't recall any "mis reads" with the unit. I think a search here may show up some other threads alo...
Best female vocals on CD
I'll be honest, I didn't read back through all these posts to see if my addition is a duplicate (sorry if it is)... I just picked up a CD by Jessica Molaskey - "A good day". Is seems to be well recorded and is a super mix of upbeat jazz with smoot...
GMA Callisto feedback Green Mountain Audio
Drubin, I don't know how to describe "hall position". What I do know...in addition to increased bottom end, the music has more weight: piano notes are more defined, male and female voices have more body. They seem to dissapear, as I face my system...
GMA Callisto feedback Green Mountain Audio
I've had the Callistos for six days. They arrived from GMA with 50 hours on them, so not totally broken in yet. All I can say is "stunning". I'm not going to gush here, but the Callistos are the real deal. Differences from the Europas are more bot...
