Budget tuner? I'm going to disagree just a little from the above post. I've been watching tuner sales on ebay, etc for a while now, and it appears to be a seller's market. I think most people use fmtunerinfo.com as sort of the bible now for which tuners are the...
Cheap tweaks...What would YOU reccomend? Train you dog to turn the record to the other side. Only costs about a dozen treats.
That nice, unforced, relaxed, easeful sound ?? I'm still trying to get it. I know when I call the 1-900 number to get the sound, my wife will kill me when she sees the charge for it. :)
How to build your own tube amplifier? My wife and I were it Phoenix, Arizona a year or two ago and I happened to stop into Arizona HiFi. I sat for awhile and listened to this little tube amp that they sold as a kit for about $150.00. I don't recall what speakers or CDP they had it hoo...
McIntosh C2200 or Audio Research Reference phono Well, I think you are talking about 2 different animals here. I currently own a Mac2102/C2200 combo and firstly can attest that the sound of the C2200 is any but thin and lean and is a big step up from the ARC SP9 (I used to own an ARC LS5mkIII li...
Sonic Frontier Power 1 Tubes Hi, I used to have a Power 2. My favorite tubes in it for the 6922's were Amperex 6922PQ or Amperex USN 7308, both USA made. Have fun. Mike.
Good tube preamp w/ HT bypass I'll second the Second Frontiers, Line 1 or Line 2 (the Line 3, which is the best one, appears to be out of the price range you are looking at). Build quality is excellent, has HT bypass, very cool remote, will match very well with your AVM, and i...
Classe or McIntosh You are really talking about 2 completely different animals here. A vintage tube amp vs a relatively new SS amp are two very different things and you shouldn't expect them to compare the same. It will also be very dependent on your other source eq...
Good choices in a used A/V pre-amp? IMHO, a B&K Reference 20 would be a nice fit at that price point, or for just a few bucks more. It would blend very nicely with your amps. It really is a very nice prepro that sold for $2,500.00 just a few years back. Good Luck, Mike.
What 2 Channel Receiver would be a good choice? How about a Linn Classik K which has a built in cd player and a tuner, or the Linn Movie (I think that's the name)which has a DVD player built in. This way you can use it to listen to music or watch DVDs with the family. I'm not sure whether the L...
McIntosh MC402 and MC501 Hi Phillyb, your response is a complete turnaround from your opinion of Mac from just a month ago when you said mac was old school with old designs. What gives? Perhaps next time, when we are giving opinions, all of us should qualify our opinion b...
Tube Rolling in a Mac 2102/2200 Thanks for the reply UncleJeff.Could you tell me a little bit more about the Mullard 12AT7's, vintage, country of origin, etc.I really appreciate it.Mike.
Balanced Tube Preamps I Should Try I agree on the above recommendations for the MAC C2200, it's a fantastic preamp. You may also want to check out an ARC LS5 MKIII, it's another great fully balanced preamp.Good Luck!Mike.
Calix speakers - anyone heard them? I heard their flagship model, the $65,000.00 one at the audio show in new York in 2001. To my ears, it was easily the best sound at the show. I'm not sure how many people heard them though because they were stuck in a room down at the end of a lon...
New preamp or other suggestions? Okay, I'll take a stab here. I agree with most of what was said but you might consider as a cheap fix, new interconnects and/or speaker cable. I'm not sure Nordost or the silver Lapis is a good match with revealing speakers and your amp/preamp com... |
