David Steven of dCS Has Passed Away :
I was shocked to hear this news. I corresponded with him some years ago. He was a true gentlemen and set new standards with me regarding what it means to stand behind a product.
Eggleston Andra power requirements
If you are willing to consider solid state, I use Macintosh MC501's with Andra IIs. It is a wonderful combination, and a used pair is probably around $6,000.
Esoteric P-05/D-05...... AES digital cable?
On the P-03/D-03 I use Audio Stealth Varidig Sextet XLR cables. They are superb.
Aerial 20T / Eggleston Savoy
Can't help on the comparison. I own and love Andra IIs, and have heard and was really impressed by the 20Ts, but certainly didn't hear them in a sufficiently similar listening environment to comment intelligently. But I can say that after some hea...
Wasting money using Esoteric DV50s as Transport?
I use the DV-50 (not the 50s) as a DVD-A source, with the P-03/D-03 as my CD/SACD primary transport/DAC. The DV-50 is plugged into the D-03 with a digital cable. Regardless of the settings on the DV-50's filter, it doesn't change the input display...
Accuphase Dp100/101 vs DCS elgar/verdi
I have no ax to grind here, because although I was a satisfied dCS owner for years, I have moved on to the Esoteric P-03/D-03. But "the new super expensive Scarlatti is all hype since if I am not mistaken the designers have all left dCS"? C'mon, i...
Vandersteen 5a or Eggleston Andra II
I have Andra IIs in a 22' X 13.5' X 9' living room, no sound treatment but about 40 framed prints on the wall which breaks up a lot of wall reflection. I have never been a big fan of what seems to be called tight bass by audiophiles, because that ...
Tube amps for Eggleston Andra II
Several years ago I brought a pair of demo Mac 501s home and hooked them up to my Andra IIs. The Andras practically purred. After a half hour of listening I wouldn't let the dealer take the Macs out long enough to replace the demos with new ones, ...
APL Esoteric X-01
Once again, doesn't anyone read? All I said was LISTEN to the Limited, which is available from numerous dealers, before passing up the upgrade of the original by the manufacturer for a more expensive one. Blind, it would appear, is blind, period.
APL Esoteric X-01
My comment still goes: before sending an X-01 out for modification, I'd listen to a Limited to see if, afterwards, there still is a desire to do so. That's all I said, and I directed the comment to Greg, who asked the question.
APL Esoteric X-01
Hi. First, as to the Andra IIs, this is not a hard to drive speaker, and in fact the manufacturer's recommendation is 100 watts per channel, unlike the original Andras, which ate power. I biwire them with McIntosh 501s, which have about 5 times th...
Esoteric DV-50s,X-03 Vs Musical Fidelity Trivista
It isn't possible to generalize about a line. I own an Esoteric DV-50 and an X-01 recently upgraded to a Limited. They are totally different machines. The 50 is a far better DVD-A player than an SACD player, the X-01 was far superior in SACD to th...
Esoteric P70 D70 vs X-01 Limited
The original X-01 might have been on the cool side out of the box, but that changed some over time. The upgrade to Limited changes the entire center of gravity of the player from upper midrange to lower. With over a thousand hours on a Limited it ...
Esoteric P/70 D/70 upgrade
I can't respond on the "upgrade" because, although I have heard the P70/D70 in someone else's system, I haven't compared them to the X-01 Limited in mine. I can tell you that the Limited is an excellent CD player and an absolutely extraordinary SA...
Esoteric UX-1: How "noisy"?
Guido, Thanks. Already ordered.
