What speakers have you mistakenly let go and then later repurchased?
Heard this story many times. Lived joyfully with Quad 57s for years. Then sold them to get dynamics bass and treble. (Probably also never had the right amp) Always missed them. When I saw an ESS rebuilt pair, grabbed them.  Now, would never have...
We Can Make Classic Cars Outperform Today's "SuperCars": Why Not Vintage Audio?
My current system (destination) is built around two key components that represent what has become an industry standard for “hot rodding” vintage gear. A Woodsong Garrard 301 and ESS Quad ESL 57s. Two cottage industry companies among several othe...
Does a turntable make a DRAMATIC difference?
I am a confessed analog snob. Waited 50 years to build a destination TT, arm, cartridge and phono stage. Built my current system around a beautiful Woodsong Garrard 301. Changed everything! I have always loved Rega. Enjoyed my P1 that still ga...
Great classical pianists
As he is affectionately known in Russia, Vanya-Van Cliburn. Certainly, there are many masters of the keyboard. But Vanya’s deeply emotional interpretations stand out as one-of-a-kind. He was in a category all by himself.
Looking for good recordings of female vocals I have not yet tried...
I recent had an interesting experience at a friend’s house. He has a terrific system using a very high end digital kit. Maybe around $50K. We listened to several cuts the digital then the analog. I was somewhat subjectively convinced of the supe...
What is the “World’s Best Cartridge”?
The Lino 3.3 was highly recommended as a phono stage that could stand up to any. I currently use a full function Atma-Sphere MP-1. This is a two box unit with a separate ps. I believe it was designed from its outset as a vinyl playback machine. H...

Claire Martin was mentioned in the first few posts! I ordered that LP.

This is one of the best, most informative and interesting threads ever. I have no digital in my main system. Only TT analog. So, I am missing out on probably the best thing about digital: learning about new music. I bought the first three woman’...
Where do you want your system to go when you go?
I am at the stage where I don't sell my extra stuff since all will go to my son. An engineer and former "rock star", he is 2,000 mikes away in Nashville. May start sending him stuff that I no longer listen to. It will be a task to get the big sp...
Class D Amplification Announcement
Correction The newest revision of the AGD Audions is MKII not MKIII.
Class D Amplification Announcement
Just got my AGD Audions back after they were upgraded to the latest revision-MK III. The power supplies were greatly improved. Before the upgrade they were not very good at powering my difficult to drive Quad 57s. Now, they pick up the Quads and ...
Tetra speakers
I am a big Tetra fan. Own 3 pair-Phoenix TZ, 120u and 606. Even the entry level 120U have the same real sound of music. Just smaller scale. Tetra speakers are uniquely musical. Can’t go wrong with any of them.
Class D Amplification Announcement
I run my AGD Audios with an Atma-Sphere MP-1 preamp. 6SN7s and 12AT7s fir phono.
Class D Amplification Announcement
I have not heard the Merril or Atma-Sphere GaN amps. I can only speak directly about all the tube and solid state amp I have owned. And to a lessor degree, amps that I have heard at shows and friend’s homes. The review by @jjss49, I feel, gives...
Class D Amplification Announcement
+1 For AGD Audions I used to be a die hard SET guy. No more. And now no other amp but the AGD Class D. Compared to any amp IME, AGD is in a class of its own. A GaN based amp but the designer holds several patents from when he was a top exec at...
