Horns and Triodes...?
Well, gentlemen, in case anyone is still paying attention to this one, I thought I might offer a touch of resolution. After much consternation and gnashing of teeth, Jim, the friend of mine that started all this, has commissioned an amp from Mr. K...
Little Help With Mostly Dead Soldier
Well I'll be a monkey's uncle. Turns out the thing is still under warranty. Just gotta schlep it a few blocks to the spot I bought it (one of the few thing's I've actually purchased new) before March, and they'll take care of it.Happy trails.
Little Help With Mostly Dead Soldier
Little more info, in case anyone out there has more experience with this stuff than I (which is to say, any at all) and would like to help.Power up on the thing (when working) is accompanied by an initial, mechanical-sounding, click, followed a co...
Little Help With Mostly Dead Soldier
Humm.... Wish me luck. Hopefully I can spot a likely culprit with the thing unplugged and the lights on, but we shall see.
Bryston BP-25 vs. Plinius CD-LAD
What are you using now? I went from a Rogue 99 Magnum to the Plinius around the beginning of the year and, at any rate, I'm still using the Plinius. Between the two, the Plinius is a bit more focused with a more precise and detailed sound stage, a...
Does the Meridian 508.24 play cdr+rw?
Been using mine in a non-Meridian system for over a year and never had a problem with it. Never had a problem reading either a finished or unfinished writable CD either, but I don't think I've ever tried a CDRW in it. I'm a big fan, for whatever t...

Naw, just a riff on the old "sky's the limit" adage. It aint, you know....
I'll have a Britney with that Taco.
The "lid-rock" crap has been in various New York city movie theaters for a couple of months now. Pretty sure that the first one offered was a track from Elvis. Ah, marketing.Reminds me of a friend who always used to ask people at what price it wou...
Horns and Triodes...?
Much appreciated, all. Clueless, a hot tip -- but, no, I wasn’t fast enough. Recognizing (I think) that it's unlikely to hit the magic combo right out of the gate, he's currently thinking about relatively budget gear with some DIY thrown in just ...
How do you clean your speaker grills?
Shoot, I just use a vaccume on a low setting. Sometimes I take them off the speakers first, sometimes I don't even bother.
Worst remote nomination...
Fine, fine, laugh at my pain....(I sure do).
Worst remote nomination...
I'm no fan of the Meridian "system" remote, especially since all I have is the CD player and the last thing I need is a desk-top console to change the freaking track. That said, my absolute least favorite remote issue has to be the fact that the vo...
Speaker spikes-worse sound-what gives?
Yea, spiking a speaker couples it to the floor pretty effectively. Whether it's a good idea depends on what you're coupling it to, though. If you're spiking it to something solid, then it will help to stabilize the whole enclosure and can improve ...
Can I nominate Sean please ?
And here I thought we were going to be adding his name to the gubanatorial race in California....
