PayPal Surcharge
I've never actually used PayPal, so my info's a bit shaky. It sounds reasonable that the reason for their "no surcharge" policy is because of certain credit card laws (and, undoubtedly, their iron-clad agreements with the credit card companies the...
PayPal Surcharge
Preferences aside, PayPal runs the disclaimer because it just happens to be illegal. Whether anyone likes it or not is beside the point. Of course PayPal doesn't care one bit what people do as long as they use their services and someone pays whate...
"Polyamping" A Look to the Future or Fancy Fad?
Ha, I was going to say that no discussion on this issue would be complete without some input from Sean, but I see that, as usual, he's way ahead of me....
help with budget, low power speaker selection
Though I've never heard them and my opinion is therefore potentially worth exactly nothing, when I think cost-effective and tube-friendly my thoughts always seem to drift towards my recurrent fascination with Soliloquy gear. (One day I'll have to ...
What are the best DIY cables you've heard?
Question about this stuff: the only teflon tape I could find is non-adhesive. It's really stretchy and sticks to itself when you stretch it, but it doesn't have any adhesive of its own. I need to keep looking, right? Is this the stuff you've been ...
System Plateau--Help Me Take The Next Step
The floor is a damn travesty. Sloppy, uneven, spongy in parts, sagging, suspended wooden floor. Pretty much the worst imaginable. The Thiels are up on the Thiel-supplied spikes, which are on stacks of pennies of various heights to actually level t...
New batch of Albert Porter's cryo treated Hubbells
I'm good for one.
How did you hear about Audiogon?
Yea, I was just cruising the web, stumbled on it about three years ago, and I've been a gonner ever since. (Actaully bought my first Thiels from the Audioreview classifieds back when they were worth while -- but it's been nothing but the Gon ever ...
3 channel ht .... pro logic vs dd
I've also found that the DD is a lot cleaner sound than the pro logic, but that may be only one consideration. Second, you have to consider your software, and most stuff currently and presumably going forward tends not to have pro logic tracks (at...
Home HiFi better than Live?
Yea, despite all of my verbiage (arguably) to the contrary, Seandtaylor99 and Garfish hit it on the head -- they're inherently different beasts, each enjoyable in its own right, and the extent to which one approximates the other is often wonderful...
Home HiFi better than Live?
It totally depends on what you're listening to. A couple of my absolutely favorite bands are my favorite bands precisely because their shows are some of the most fun you can have with your clothes on. That said, they can't seem to lay down a decen...
What are the best DIY cables you've heard?
Awl come on, enough of this "starting point" tease, what's a good ending point? ;)
System Plateau--Help Me Take The Next Step
All makes sense to me. The room is not quite as bad as I seem to have indicated -- the glass on the back wall is only from about 9ft up to the peak of the ceiling at around 19 or so. Not great, but not as quite as bad as a full glass wall (As if t...
I need some clarity
If you're determined to bark up the silver IC tree (which sounds like a decent idea), I'd suggest checking out the kits available from Homegrownaudio.com. Assuming you can solder, $40 for the Super Silver (which is, in most regards, the functional...
Oppinions on the Thiel 2.3's
I'd agree with the above (have had mine for about 4 years), but rather than shying away from the 2.3 due to the impending 2.4, I'd encourage you to stay on the lookout for real bargains because the price on used 2.3's is bound to drop even further...
