DAC Reviews - Headphones v Speakers Thanks @soix - Makes sense then why serious head-fi folks go to forums dedicated to head-fi.
new Meitner MA3 hit the rack today A quick post here to echo the thoughts from @73cuttysupreme - very few mentions of the Meitner MA3 on this board, or in the press generally. I had the chance to home audition it this weekend and it is stellar. 100% engagement with the music -- I f...
Weiss 501 DAC P.S. This may be too obvious to mention on a website whose main purpose is the buying and selling of used audio gear, but if we're talking about relative value, the secondhand markets for the top Chinese DACs and N.A./Euro DACs are VERY different....
Weiss 501 DAC @melm Hi yes I agree -- there are always trade-offs. I think the modular nature of some DACs is a very attractive feature, but no it’s not a universally appealing solution. Companies like Bricasti and Ayre have shown over the years their commitme...
Weiss 501 DAC @lordmelton that wasn’t directed at you specifically, just a general note. Happy listening.
Weiss 501 DAC The OP isn't asking about bang for the buck, but I suppose it's an inevitable consideration... The top Holo DAC ($5800+ shipped, as of today) plus a decent network bridge (say a Lumin U1 mini at $2100, a Bricasti M5 at $2500 or an Auralic Aries G...
A decent integrated amp under 2K ... P.S. you may also want to consider a used/demo Moonriver 404. A used one sold the other day for less than $2k (otherwise, $3.5k for the standard and $5k for the reference model at full retail). I home-demoed it. It sounds good. A "low power" clas...
A decent integrated amp under 2K ... Consider the Hegel H95. Believe it's just under $2k.
Weiss 501 DAC It's VERY good but not surprisingly, it keeps with its professional recording pedigree. Very high-resolution and potentially too cool (for my taste) in certain systems. It's not a sound for everyone. Home audition before you buy, if you can.
New Mojo Mystique X @fuzzbutt17 When will the dealer listing become available? I'd love to listen, but an in-home demo could get pricey with round-trip shipping (these are heavy DACs), so working with a dealer probably makes more sense for me. Thanks.
Different R2R DACs @melm The right review -- to the right reader -- means something. A reviewer with gear and taste that overlap with mine...their take means something to me. The trick is finding the right reviewers for you. That Stereophile reviewer spent time with...
Musetec (LKS) MH-DA005 DAC Seems like Shenzhen on Black Friday is the way to go. Supposedly the factory direct price is now $3,200 (rationale is rising parts cost), so eventually that’ll flow through to the dealer price point.
Different R2R DACs @m-db Yes, industry accomodation pricing must be nice! There’s not much money in reviewing, however, so when you consider the overall comp package (accomodation pricing included), I understand why many reviewers do it essentially part-time. I’ll...
Different R2R DACs The recent Stereophile review of the Sonnet Morpheus makes a point I think most of us already appreciate: it's all about implementation. The Morpheus is an R2R DAC that according to the review manages to achieve the stereotypical virtues of both R...
Streamer/DAC A number of DACs/streamers/combination DAC-streamers are physically modular, i.e. are upgradable. I tend to favor these. Sonnet, Bricasti, totaldac, aqua, MSB come to mind. So you don't have to dump/sell the box, if you want to update them. FP... |
