Holo May KTE vs Meitner MA3
I'd expect these to sound quite different (have home demoed the Meitner, have not heard the May). Curious why these are both on your audition list?
DAC Merry Go 'Round- why I stopped at Weiss
Weiss makes a great DAC. It’s also pretty cool to have a Grammy winning engineer answer customer questions. I appreciate that personal touch.
Playback Edelweiss in the house
Interesting tweener price point. Hard to think of immediate competitors. Perhaps the streaming DAC Nagra (esp b/c of the Koch connection) is working on to replace their Classic DAC, though that won’t have the CD option. Then there’s the EMM DV2 p...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
I'm not sure if this thread has discussed source synergy yet (I don't have the stamina to re-read it). The EMM DV2 doesn't have an internal source, whereas the Tambaqui does have an internal Roon streaming board. The obvious streaming source for ...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
In the $15k plus category, keep an eye on Nagra. Their successor to the Nagra Classic DAC will include streaming capability. Koch of Playback is on their digital design team. The analog stage is designed by the Nagra brain trust. Beautiful form fa...
MSB DAC's Popularity
@eugene81 Couldn’t have said it better myself... @jeffreyw Any good MSB dealer will give you an MSB home audition. If they won’t, move on. If there’s no dealer near you, if you contact the MSB distributor, they’ll hook you up. You should listen y...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
@laoman Your amp has some similar design principles as mine, but I'm not familiar with the speakers. Hopefully you can home audition from a dealer. If that's not a possibility, if you can buy these on the used market, you can effectively do an ext...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
@laoman You've put together a great list. I like all three of those brands. I have not heard the Pasithea, but I did take the Morpheus for a spin. I'd expect the Pasithea to be (even) quieter and more resolving than the Morpheus.  On the Mola Mol...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
@fleschler I’m not sure how this thread devolved into a discussion of DACs unrelated to the OP’s question -- that’s how these discussions always seem to go..."expensive" DACs (i.e., more expensive than whatever the poster likes) are the new "sna...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
@lalitk thank you! I have long admired your contributions to this forum, as they are based on direct experience. I have also found that folks with wonderful systems (like yourself) are more open minded about what’s possible in hifi (less bias), wh...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
So I received the Mola Mola Tambaqui, this is Day Two in my system. I am sure it will improve over time. For reference, the other DACs I’ve heard at home are totaldac (my reference), the latest Weiss, latest Meitner, and the Sonnet Morpheus. The...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
@lalitk is correct -- if you're interested in super high-end hifi, WBF is by far the best resource I've encountered. A lot of experienced users there, and it tends to be friendlier... If you want to change your perspective on chip DACs, you may w...
Graceline cable from Black Cat cables
Just wanted to put in another good word for the Graceline cables. I've been using the "entry level" L1 speaker cables. Last year I used his (former) entry level Black Cat wire (not Coppertone, but what preceded it). The Gracelines are a significan...
Circle Labs A200 Integrated amplifier review - It will appeal to both tube and SS lovers……
@whipsaw Yes, the Riviera Levante is special. Unsurprisingly for a Tone Imports product, it sings in a pure and human tone. I haven't heard Circle Labs, but it's nice to see other designers with similar sonic goals (real-life listening pleasure &g...
Emm Labs DV2 versus Tambaqui
I'm borrowing a friend's Mola Mola Tambaqui in a couple weeks, can let you know my impressions if you're interested. I've heard the DV2 but never had it at home. I did have their entry-level Meitner MA3 at home and thought it was very enjoyable.
