Tannoy anyone? Cheviot Legacy vs. Stirling GR
As an afterthought, I have had my Sterlings for ~18 months. to listening sessions due to temporal constraints I likely have somewhat less than2 00 hours on them. I wonder about the breakin period.
Tannoy anyone? Cheviot Legacy vs. Stirling GR
@mulveling  As an owner of the Sterlings I appreciate your information regarding the internal wiring.  Seems like it would not be to difficult to remove the drivers to make repairs if necessary. I wonder if the drivers are available and at what co...
Thoughts on the iFi Zen Streamer
@dbb Thanks for the additional info. I am anticipating the curve, both with the device and the streaming service.
Bookshelf Speaker For Outdoors
I have a system I use outdoors. I move it there when in use. Keep it stored indoors. A simple integrated amp with internal DAC and speakers makes setup easy.
Tube Amp settings: Triode vs UL; 8 ohm vs. 4 ohm ?
I also have those options on my tube amplifier.  In addition to output tube types, and variable feedback/damping. I view it as a wonderful opportunity to explore my personal preferences. Other than the fact that the output tap used will likely be ...
BAT VK3ix an upgrade from Freya +?
Yes the BAT may be somewhat warmer than the Freya. Many would prefer that. I have heard BAT amplification and enjoyed the experience. The Freya is very good at it's price point, however as aforementioned the BAT is built to a higher standard. BA...
B&K EX 4420 vs B&K EX 4420 reference
I once owned the B&K ST140. Purchased in 1985. Around 2010 before B&K went out of business I call then about a check up and possible refurbish. They said that it would need new output boards as the trannys were no longer available.  I trul...
Thoughts on the iFi Zen Streamer
@bkeske  @fuzztone Thanks for your comments. Just  the info I was looking for. I believe I will be just fine with the basic aspect to the app. Will just be getting into streaming. If that becomes a major music access I will likely one day move the...
Question about Class A
Congrats on your purchase! Please let us know your thoughts after comparison to your Vincent. I am thinking you are going to be very happy. I had forgotten your were using an external DAC when making my last post.
Thoughts on the iFi Zen Streamer
@fuzztone Thanks for the quick response. Exactly what i was thinking, I already have a couple of DACs and the price seems right for getting familiar with a streaming service. I am now trying out Qobuz using my computer. Good to hear your opinion o...
Decisive moments your your audio journey
1969, heard 1st real system. Dynaco ST70, PAS 3 pre, AR3A speakers, AR TT. Knew then where I was heading. Still on the journey.
Best Bang for the Buck Upgrade
I am with those that suggest you treat your room. The heavy curtains covering the sliding doors would be a good start.  Additionally, photos of choice can be copied onto canvas for sound absorption panels. May garner greater acceptance for their u...
Question about Class A
At 3X the price the Sugden A21SE had better prove an improvement over the Vincent SV-500.  Actually any of the A21 series should be. I would not advise the purchase of an amplifier with intentions of using your Vincent as a pre unless you are pla...
[Tube Preamp][Need Help]Could you suggest a tube preamp matched with a SS AMP?
@rocray Yes, Aric make several tube preamps. They also have low (for tube) output impedance. My Special has output impedance of 200 ohms across frequency range. He makes one called the Unlimited which in basic form retails for ~$1600 I believe. I ...
[Tube Preamp][Need Help]Could you suggest a tube preamp matched with a SS AMP?
Must say that @decooney  asks a good question and makes a good point. At the moment I am at a loss for options.  The M504 is a good amp. The low input impedance does represent a load for most tube preamps however.  Not sure about the Schiit pream...
