Newbie question-- where to throw my frogskins next?
Congrats on your purchases. I believe you have optimized what you can get out of your TT and did not exhaust your budget. Just curious, were the cartridge and cork mat purchases based on recommendations made in reviews of your turntable? I am not ...
DAC for CD transport
Most later model CD players have optical or coax digital output, some both. Most DACs have both optical and coax inputs. Generally coax is preferred. Given that you won't require a USB input you are open for the opportunity to purchase an older us...
Class "A" sound, as related to Stereophile.
Thanks for the kind words Dave and orpheus. When one has the latitude, playing with one's room is the best and least expensive way to tune a system to one's liking. Realizing that we are tuning to an average of what we are presented from the recor...
Newbie question-- where to throw my frogskins next?
Given that you seem to be happy with your 5.1 system and are simply attempting to add vinyl as a source I would devote your expenditures toward that end. Stick with the electronics (amplification) you currently have.Though it is easy to recommend ...
repair or replace luxman preamp
Check out cost to get an estimate on repair, if not to high then get the estimate, then decide. Your pre is 25 years old and probably need capacitor replacement and other deeds done in the process.
Random thoughts from a sort of, kind of audiophile
Shadorne, I don't disagree with your points and realize that sonics are not the only attributes contributing to an audio purchase. My point was that due to our differing hearing deficiencies each of our recommendations should be 'heard' with a gra...
DAC for CD transport
Can you purchase a MDHT DAC where you live? If so check them out. A great sub $1000 DAC for transport use.
Jolida Fusion DAC/transport: opinions or other DAC/transport alternatives?
I understand the desire to have a CD player with access to the internal DAC. Seems logical way to simplify a system and remove need for some cables. I own the Jolida Fusion preamp and enjoy it greatly however have no experience with this CD player...

Slaw, I think you hit on something. We all make buying decisions based on our personal hearing 'condition'. I have no problem with my personal buying decisions given my hearing condition, however others might 'listen' to my equipment recommendatio...

Orpheus10, have really enjoyed this thread and the dialog between you, Dave and others. Thanks!  I believe one can get the most from their system regardless of 'class' by having a dedicated room, paying attention to supplying quality power, employ...
Entry Level Interconnect Reccomendations
Should add, save the box and MD receipt for authentication.
Entry Level Interconnect Reccomendations
I addition to them being a good fit in your system, the AQ KCs  are very well made and easily sold on the used market should one choose to make a change.

Very much enjoyed this thread. I am 67, been interested in audio since my first exposure at 19. Buying music prior to that. I have hearing loss and tinnitus however it hasn't stifled my music enjoyment.
Starting over with vinyl
I forgot to ask, what is your budget for a DAC?
Entry Level Interconnect Reccomendations
I have not heard all the cables recommended however I believe the AQ King Cobra's at the Music Direct sale price would be a good fit in your system and a good buy.
