Falling out of love with tubes You need a preamp and a DAC. Using the headphone output is not ideal. I agree that the SA 250 should be checked out.
My wife is at it again......... What an entertaining Blog! Thanks.
Looking for not too expensive Turntable If one was buying new, the Audio Technica LP-120 comes with a AT-95E cartridge. A friend of mine owns one and it seems very well built for the price (~$250 Amazon). I would also check out Music Direct, The Record Doctor, and Audio Advisor for alte...
Gain into my preamp from DAC After talking to Jolida, Al's second descriptor for what accounts for my gain issue best fits. There is no conversion stage (op amp?) on the Jolida's XLR input. I now think I might be better off using the Brystons RCA outputs connected to the RCA ...
Looking for not too expensive Turntable A PL-12D in good condition can be found for under $200. As a budget TT probably as good as any of the new ones under $400. What is your budget?
Gain into my preamp from DAC Thanks once again Al. I am going to call Jolida and ask how the XLR input is configured.
looking for a new pre/amp or integrated amp Doug, As I stated in my 1st post of 1/24, check out the Bluesound Node 2. I am considering a Bluesound products myself, likely the Vault 2. I want to rip CDs.The cost of the Node 2 would leave ~$1500 of your budget for an 2 channel integrated amp...

looking for a new pre/amp or integrated amp In my opinion a $2000 investment into a 2 box solution, a server and an integrated amplifier, would prove to be a a better investment, both sonically and ecconomicaly, over the short and long term, than a AVR. With the latter one is paying for too...
Gain into my preamp from DAC Ai, thanks again for your reply. I knew after making the comparison that the input stage on the Jolida pre's XLR was not configured to deliver the expected gain, I was not sure as to why, or if it was even possible. I know know the answer to both ...
Opinions re: debugging/repairing Cambridge Audio 540A amp stage I own a 540A which i am using in a secondary system. I believe it was manufactured in 2004, I bought it used here on AG for $150 shipped to my door.It is probably worth that today. Given the above, if something like what you are experiencing happe...
Gain into my preamp from DAC Cleeds, I am not sure that the input portion of a single ended device can't be configured to accept both signals from a balanced device when connected via XLR such that the 6 dB gain is enforced. This was one aspect inherent to my question, and as...
Gain into my preamp from DAC Not sure how one 'geberally' uses anything, however understand it to be very difficult :-).
Schiit Modi Multibit If I was looking for a streamer, I would think the Bluesound Node 2's internal DAC would be be competitive against any of the external DACs under consideration herein. The Node 2 will not serve a CD player as transport however, lacks SPDIF input. ...
Manual gain controls on Hafler 9180 I would try to position the controls on the amp such that I advance the volume control on the preamp to about the 2 o'clock position for the loudest desired system volume. Hopefully this can be done such that the attenuation on the amp is minimal. |
