Seeking Advice on NOS DAC
Low, regarding a USB/SPDIF converter, I use a Audiophilleo2 with the Pure Power supply between my MAC Mini with Pure Music playback to a Bryston BDA-1. They have come up used here on AG ocassionaly. The AP2W/PP should be had for under $400 used.
Need Advice on a Low End CD Player Giant Killer
A single disc player will outperform a multi. I would purchase a used DAC with a new transport.
Adcom?
Yes, Adcom was king of power for the money back then. I believe B&K made the smoothest SS amp for the money at that time for speakers not needing excessive power (st-140).
Yamaha A-S701
I know that the A-s801 can be had discounted, maybe close to the price of the 701. The 801 would provide more power, however i am not sure of other differences.
Trying to bridge a gap between my amp and speakers
I use the Jolida Fusion to drive a BEL 1001 MK5. The Fusion is a very good pre for the money in the sub $1500 range purchasing new. There are others, Quicksilver, Linear Tube Audio MZ2 as two examples. Buying used opens up other options.
Schiit Vidar Outlaw RR2160
Just some thoughts from one interested in your quest:Given that the Outlaw has phonostage and DAC I would not consider the purchase of either as a stand alone until I spent time with the respective internal ones. The Bluesound Node 2 is a solid re...
Schiit Vidar Outlaw RR2160
+1 Rich. With the Outlaw you won't need a preamp. Your money is then vested into turntable, receiver (or integrated), and speakers.
Should I buy a new cd player or DAC or both or neither?
You can have both worlds with a DAC. Attach a transport and a streamer.
Schiit Audio headphone amps
I own an original Schiit Vahalla which I use with an AKG701. Great sounding combo for the dollar. Bought the Schiit used here on AG, $~200.
Looking for a music server, sans DAC.
2psyop, thanks for the additional info.  I am not set up with a network. I also don't worry about artwork for ripped CDs as I have the original. I will consider a different approach to ripping CDs if that proves valuable to my quest, however still...
Would you buy a 12-14 year old Integrated?
Dhpeck, I have no problem purchasing used equipment and do so often. I generally like the components to be less than 10 years old, thinking this provides greatest usage time and thus return on investment. Now I must admit that have limited exposur...
Looking for a music server, sans DAC.
2pysop, I  will consider the use of the Node 2 to playback my AIFF file via HDD. I did not realize it would play files off HDD. I could continue to rip cds  to HDD using computer, basically have a backup of all files on the HDD used for playback.n...
Looking for a music server, sans DAC.
2pysop, Yes I plan on keeping the Bluesound Vault 2on my list. probably keep my DAC in place as I use the XLR inputs on my Pathos integrated. Do you use yours to rip CDs directly? If so have you had any problems?  I have seen user reviews stating ...
Looking for a music server, sans DAC.
Audioengr, I have looked up the antipodes products. It seems the Edge may be what I might want to consider. I believe I could retrieve AIFF files off an external hard drive via USB and send SPDIF to my DAC via coax. The Edge has external LPS I bel...
Maybe tube preamp
Might also check out Quicksilver, Micro Zotl, and Vincent (as stated above).
