Another new DAC: Audio Mirror jtcf, Right now I am using a Audioquest VDM-5 coax cable. Once I sort out the other changes I wish to make in my system I may consider a change in cabling. I am happy with the DAC however have only about 30 hrs. on it. Will have an extended listen...
Low Cost DACs I have a Schiit Modi2 and also purchased a used Micromega MyDac for $125. Either would make an improvement when playing from a computer. The Modi 2 can be found used for close to $50. That version has USB input only however may be all you need. I...
Small room amp and speakers recommendation Check into the Pathos Classic Model One MK3. A wonderful looking and sounding hybrid amplifier.
original cambridge cxc cd transport Right now the CXC is the least expensive transport available purchased new. Now can be found for around $300. I own one and am pleased with it's performance.
Looking to Try a Passive Preamp Yes, the output impedance for the DAC seemed high to me. This is the information I received from Vlad at Audio Mirror. Also the output impedance for the SYS seems high. Is this so?As to input impedances, am I right that the input impedance 'seen' ...
Another new DAC: Audio Mirror Well, I received my Tubadour yesterday and have put about 7 hours on it. I am very pleased with the sound and understand it will only get better. I use it with a Cambridge CXC transport. It replaced a Bryston BDA-1, which I felt is a very good DAC...
Upgrade Advice Request At your price point I would consider upgrading to a late model integrated amplifier. What is your room size?
Headphone DAC for under $150. +1 for Schiit Modi. I own the Modi 2. It has USB input only. No external power supply.
Upgrading a CD/SACD player with integral DAC If playing CDs only, I would buy the R2R multibit DAC and CD transport combination that best complimented my system, tastes, and budget.
Another Analog v. Digital Thread? Not Really +1 2channel8. On a related thought, how about the quality comparison between CD players vs.turntables at budget end of the spectrum, say $500?
Should I still buy a CD player? Suggest one? I can also agree on the Cambridge CXC v1. Currently are easily found under $400. Great transport.
Advice on whether speaker upgrade is in order As turnbrown stated, I would try speakers without sub. Spend some time to hear if that improves midrange and highs. If you remain wanting more bass then look into getting a more full range pair of speakers having very smooth upper frequencies.
What is the most FUN pair of speakers you've ever had and why? Bought a pair of Pioneer CS63DX speakers in 1970. My 1st pair of decent speakers. Had lots of fun with them. Always wondered how they would sound with my more recent systems.
Salk bookshelf or Dynaudio bookshelf? Or something else? I have used my Macbook Pro with Pure Music playback program playing CDs ripped as AIFF files into a DAC. Also usb input is asynchronous, placing DAC in charge of data stream vs. computer. . That would make for an improvement over compressed files....
Should I still buy a CD player? Suggest one? I believe to get equivalent playback from vinyl as from digital, vinyl is more expensive, both in hardware and software. Since your post refers to CD playback I will suggest that you consider the purchase of a CD transport and a DAC. Having separ... |
