Good 2 channel receiver
If you want to buy new, Yamaha makes a receiver in your price range I would consider. I forgot the model number. Teo_audio does make a good point. One could purchase an new integrated amplifier and a used tuner. Just as a way of making a point, I ...

Do you need the FM section? If not then consider an integrated amplifier.

I would go for the Outlaw. If looking at a lower budget check out Yamaha.
Upgrading System...Help/opinions on Parasound and others?
I would strongly consider the Vincent integrated. I owned a Vincent SV-226 and loved it. Never should have sold it. Possessed a smooth but detailed presentation with great soundstaging,  A great product to serve at the heart of your system. At you...

Blown away with 2 speakers hifi sound!
I am glad that the upgrade made such an improvement. I What player did you replace and with which player?
Noob, need help please
Yes the use of a better amplifier may help, however one would still be passing a signal through a multichannel processor as part of a budget AVR. I believe the OP is interested in starting with a 2-channel system and adding the video system later.
What's more important in a difficult room, room correction or higher, clean, power?
I usually think of room treatment not room correction. It might be of help on the sub, if not don't use the correction feature. If you like the Peachtree you should keep it.

I heard the Haydns at a dealer quite some time ago. I thought they sounded very lush, somewhat warm, refined. Good looking speaker. Let us know what you think of them.

Since you only will be using the AV receiver for the center and surrounds you can purchase one at lower cost. Use most of the $1000 for the 2-channel integrated.  Look for a used 5.1 receiver. You will need the remote with the receiver.I use a AV ...

At that price the Polks seem interesting. As I have previously stated I already have too many speakers or I might try a pair.
