Bob Carver "Black Beauty 305" or the E.A.R. 890
My only thought was how loud do you want to play your music? Then I remembered that some people have big rooms to fill. Even then when I lived in a relatively large home with a big formal living room, I was able to get all the volume I needed from...
VPI 3D tonearm
I couldn't find the NY Times article. What is the title?
It's time for a new button on Audiogon
I guess that is sensible. If you are firm there is no offer so just put up a buy it now button and let that be the end of it. I still imagine people will want a break on shipping or something else they can sneak in.
How powerful is a Wavac MD-300B
It often comes down to the transformers and the overall caliber of the circuit. There are some SET amps that are very powerful and others not so much. I don't know about the Wavac, I would have thought that they would be in the high power bracket ...
5Z4 half-wave rectifiers replacement suggestion
Ask on Aujdio Asylum's Tube Asylum you might get more answers. I also think it is a full rectifier but I don't use rectifiers so I am not sure.
Reviewing the Reviewers - and the decline of HiFi
After reading this I would like to become a reviewer. Even if for the long term loans of some of the pricier equipment that I am sure to love, even though the associated equipment isn't with me right now.Nice cars watches good pens whatever I will...
Sugden SE21 CD player repair
For that kind of total replacement you might as well throw in the towel and ask Sugden what they charge or just get a new player. CD players I was told early on in this hobby are subject to wearing out and can fail at a certain point. I gave up on...

I think it is quite useful to say your price is firm if that is what you want. The bargaining process can be quite uncomfortable. I generally price my items low enough to warrant no bargaining or haggling, and I reject anyone who starts. That is f...
Steve guttenberg
Who is Steve Guttenberg and what did he say that is so irritating. I am in no mood to start the sound versus music arguement we tend to get into every so often but I will say why can't we have both for cryin out tears. And maybe coffee is the wrong...
Reviewing the Reviewers - and the decline of HiFi
The review process is almost completely unrelated to the decline of hi-fi. The whole technical world seems to be currently revolving around the concept of portability. Therefore whatever is small is of high value seeemingly without regard to the s...
Paradigm bookshelf speakers...
It will work so yes, but it really depends on how close you listen and how loud you want them to play. It is rare that a bookshelf can fill a large room no matter the amp. It gets tricky with moderate spaces and moderately loud volumes. You need s...
URGENT limited offer, Paradigm 15 v1 faulty $275?
Broken anything isn't a guaranteed easy fix no matter how its described. I would be quite reluctant. Aren't there reasonable subs for $275.00 or there abouts, I would buy a working one for that money.
Zik Headphones
I am pretty skeptical, but in this case I agree just keep them and tell him they're great, even if you don't love the sound. I never heard oif them but they may be great you never know!
Jolida 102b Speaker Recommendations
I have used Heresys which actually fill your outlined description if you are looking at the original or first series speakers. You won't get a lot of bass. If you aren't going to play them loudly and you listen fairly nearfield the world is your o...
Stainless Steel Binding posts on speakers?
I really don't know about steel but I kinda wish they would use more copper. The arguement is that copper oxidizes and then makes for an ugly and nonconductive surface. My personal experience with stripped copper wire is that this process is barel...
