Magnepan 3.7
The best thing to do is a search on the older model and if you like what you see, then buy one of the many pairs that will be sold for those who have to get the latest edition. The difference between them, for you who may not have heard the earlie...
...and now a word from your anti-sponsor...
I think this thread is the arguement over whether reproduced sound ever approaches live sound. This is the very basis of the notion of Hi-Fi. Which you all know means sound that is as close as possible to the original sound recorded. This remians ...
Natural and Neutral could be boring ..
If you want an old style warm tube amp, I disagree with your assessment of CJ's earlier models which are indeed "tubey". Whereas I agree with you regarding ARC and BAT they are very nuetral to my ears.N.B.-My tube amp's aroma has always been very ...
What to upgrade or just leave it alone ?
Don't buy a Rolex everyone has one. Get something people will really think you have a lot of dough. How about a used Vacheron or a Patek Phillipe. I would get a better front end in fact I think your thoughts about the Oppo are correct. I also agre...
Tube amp advice
I drive my JM Labs Focal Electra 936s with Amps that weigh 80 lbs a piece and are rated at 75- 78 WPC. The Focals are rated at a nominal 8 ohm impedence but have a 3.8 ohm min. impedence. I agree with Raquel the output trannys must be big and heav...
Success Rolling Opamps in EE Minimax DAC
Makes me wonder how much the parts cost on a $1000 DAC. I know there is the expensive casework, labor and overhead and a necessary profit. Also it does make you think that if better op amps are $8 why don't they use them in the first place? How mu...
Do Blue Dots applied to LP labels improve sound?
If you apply them in a perfect circle on the lable and wrap them in lead foil pile of about ten in each location leave the top one blue. Then rhe blue dots will help flatten the record and stabilize the rotation. The down side is that you can't us...
New Lyra Delos wheres the bass?
I know this is dumb but what but have you checked the tracking weight?
Can clicks and pops blow a tweeter?
Thanks for the specs Al. I had a hard time finding them. Hmm 28 WPC thats pretty good out of those modded EL-84s. I assume the amp runs pretty hard and I will be struggling to find good NOS 7868s sooner than I would want. The new ones you might al...
Quad 12L Actives & REL Q108 Sub
Can you tell us how you bought a streamer in Shenzhen. Which company did you buy it from. I know that Shezhen is sort of an electronics manufacturing center in China. My Opera Consonance Cyber 800 mono blocks were made there. At least the company ...
Not so Easy to Skip the Preamp?
Do you want SS only? Otherwise I really like the Cary preamps. I am especially fond of the AES AE-3 which I think you can still buy new although hotrodded a bit at Upscale Audio for about $1200- I don't know if you can still buy the Parasound Z-pr...
It,s Impossible
@ NiacinI agree with your thoughts regarding the OP. I was trying to say just that, but didn't expand enough on my point. The comma thing may be a result of people who are like me, that must look at the keyboard in order to type. The notation for t...
Your homemade tweaks?
Why not use any readily cut tubing, such as garden hoses. Indeed you could block RFI etc by stuffing in some ferrite like steel wool to surround your cables. Patent Pending TM protected copywritten etc. Then of course put some viscoelastic somewhere.
Are All Mullards Created Equal?
The straight man's answer is absolutely not. There are differences in Mullards from one plant to another from different vintages and of course design such as long vs short plate, halo getter vs D getter, black plate vs grey plate (IIRC?) and of co...
It,s Impossible
You are quite right it is impossible with these arbitrary rules. What are you really looking for?
