Best sounding "budget" integrated amp for Vandersteen 2C. I used the 2cs years ago and they do need decent power. I agree with the recommendations of a use NAD, Hafler stack, Rotel, or Emotiva. I would suggest at a minimum 75w/ch for those.
NAD Preamp Just a suggestion that you add a price range and what features and sound characteristics you want (i.e. remote, phono stage, balanced, pure analog, built in dac). One person’s “reasonably priced” is $500, another’s is $5,000.
Please vote Personally, I would not purchase any of them, as none meet my taste. As others have said, you really need to listen for yourself. For example, B&W speakers people seem to love or hate, with few in middle.
Speakers for aging audiophiles - What's with today bass emphasis ? A well designed ported speaker sounds every bit as “tight” as a sealed speaker. It is a function of qtc and group delay. It is not a matter of sealed v ported, but how the designer has tuned it. You really need to look at your room. Without runnin...
Speakers for aging audiophiles - What's with today bass emphasis ? I will chime in on the side of looking at your room first. It is worth the investment of $100 to purchase a calibrated mic and download rew to see what peaks and nulls you have in your room. Changes in setup (often minor) and room treatments to ad...
Non-audiophile needs help with older system. Just want to say thanks to everyone for all the help. I spend time on a number of technical type websites. Some of them are not so friendly especially when you're a noob asking stupid questions. It is refreshing to get good, friendly, non-condes...
Need power amp recommendations for system I would go the BHK since you are so far down the PS Audio path. There is a good arguement that can be made since they were designed and voiced together, they will be synergistic.
Non-audiophile needs help with older system. Just try and get the sofa out from the rear wall a couple of feet. If you put the speakers close to the sidewalls, a couple of absorption panels will work wonders for the first reflection points. GIK Acoustics sells them for a resonable price, h...
Non-audiophile needs help with older system. As for WAF, my wife gets a pass here because she has accepted a whole lot of my other more intrusive hobbies. I can’t complain. So I’ll have to pick and choose my dedicated listening time. The thing that really kills me is that my daughter and her...
Non-audiophile needs help with older system. " On another forum, not really an audio forum, I was told that I could not run a combo tuner/receiver/amp through the LS16 preamp. But, the LS16 (I’ve determined that mine is the MKII) has a set of RCA inputs marked "Processor". That is what I ran...
Non-audiophile needs help with older system. N80,It sounds like most of the issue you are having with the system is that you are used to a certain sound and it is taking time for you to adjust to this new, arguably better system. It seems you have it at least tentatively set up properly. T...
Non-audiophile needs help with older system. A couple of quick thoughts:1) pull the Onkyo out. The CD and Phono should be running directly to the pre-amp. 2) make sure the speakers are in phase, positive to positive from the amp to speaker terminal on both. One might be flipped. 3) ma...
Looking for AMP relacement You are probably best off ordering another Levinson to closely match the asthetics and equipment there. If the owner doesn’t know what he wants, he likely cares more that it matches and just works. The current model is the 536. If not the Levinson...
Enhancing low frequencies for my system I have to agree. I had a set of 3a Sigs for a while and they had amazingly tight and plentiful bass, nearly as deep as my Velodyne ULD-12s (pair) and “tighter” sounding. Richard Vandersteen is a bit of a bass whore, and with the 3a + twin 2wqs, yo...
Hi i have platinum audio bookshelf monitors that do not sound right... Having to turn it 3/4 of the way is not an issue, it just means there is not as much gain than some other combos (your amp has adjustable gain). Are the power guard lights on the amplifier coming on, which would signify clipping? That amp shoul... |
