Okay I Bought the Magnepan 3.6's
Bombaywalla,You are correct the Maggies are a relatively benign load in terms of current requirements; as long as the amp is comfortable into 4 ohm loads, there shouldn't be a problem. What you are forgetting is that Maggies do suffer from dynamic...
Okay I Bought the Magnepan 3.6's
I don't think the 150.5 is enough, especially in your room. There is a reason so many are recommending huge amps like the Wyred for Sound, Bryston 14Bsst, or Pass 350.5. The maggies are not very efficient and will run through the 150.5's 300 watts...
Okay I Bought the Magnepan 3.6's
Wait!!! Did you buy the Maggies new or used? If they are new you really need to let them break in for a couple of hundred hours in order to be ale to evaluate amps. The sound of Maggies changes significantly over the first couple of hundred hours ...
Magnepan MMG or Vandersteen 1C
Are you using a subwoofer? If not, definitely the Vandersteens.
B&W vs Vandersteen?
One more thing, I have never cared for the B&W's, so I do have a bias. I have been told that they sound much better (different)when driven by the big McIntosh solid state amps.
B&W vs Vandersteen?
To me the Vandersteens are the clear winner. I had a pair of 3A sigs for a few months and found them to have incredibly tight bass when driven by a good high powered solid state amp. They also got quiet loud, but if you really crave high DB's may ...
Which One Amp for the Magnepan 3.6's?
I second the Sunfire if you can find one. Great amp that melds with the Maggies really well. I have the standard one with my 2.7s and couldn't be more pleased.
Magnepan 2.7QR owners...please.
As a longtime 2.7 owner a few suggestions:1) Try using short pieces of wire instead of the metal bars. The metal bars sound horrible. I found cardas wire to work well for the jumpers.2) If you use resistors, get some good quality ones. I tried bot...
Vandersteen 1C with 845 S.E.T.
You can probably get away with it if you don't want to listen super loud. The 1c's are much more efficient than the 2's and 3's (I have had all three). I have run mine with a 37w/ch Nakamichi receiver and it has plenty of power as long as you don'...
Magnapan 1.6 and 65 inch tv
Ozzy is a bit harsh in his response, but it is true that having the tv between the maggies (any speaker in fact) will negatively impact the sound. I don't watch movies, but have a big screen between my 2.7qr's (wife wanted it) and it the imaging i...
Velodyne DLS-5000R or HSU VTF-3 MKII?
Neither. Either get a good used Velodyne, Vandersteen or REL. The low end velodynes sound nothing like their better products. Real Velodynes use servo's and are worth the money. For music, there are three Veldyne HGS posted right now under $1000. ...
Affordable subwoofer for music cont'd
Note the Def Tech sub is a bit of a boomer and probably won't suit your needs very well. I have used a Paradigm PDR-10 sub previously and found it to be very musical and to integrate well with main speakers. It didn't has the highest output but wa...
PMC speakers vs B&W... has anyone compared?
Just a few thoughts having heard both speakers over the years:1) The PMC is a very accurate and revealing speaker. I had a set of Celestions that were the same way and found that I couldn't stand them after a while. Most recording aren't that good...
Sonics of Soundlabs
Boy you really don't get it!!!!! There are no standing waves below the lowest nodal frequency. Period, it doesn't matter what type of tranducer you are using. Also, you don't measure the diagonal of the room, you measure the longest distance betwe...
Sonics of Soundlabs
I will try this one last time and then quit wasting my time, as it appears you are more concerned with running your mouth than hearing the truth. Below the resonate frequency of the room, there is what is termed transfer function gain, room gain, ...
