crown K-1 amplifier
In my experiences, Crown amps have been extremely stable, but typically used for professional purposes (bands and dj's and such). I have seen them used outdoors, in adverse weather conditions, and noted them to be reliable performers. Try it, see ...
Has my Meridian 506 become an expensive door stop?
Try cleaning the laser mechanism. 3M sells a laser cleaning disc for about $10.oo available at office supply stores and packaging stores (why they would carry such an object, I don't know). Anyway, it's worth a shot.
Is using a X.1 AV receiver just for stereo bad?
Try to audition equipment before you buy it. Trust your ears. You will be able to hear audible differences in source material, recordings, speakers, speaker placement, pre-amps, amps, receivers, and, not to mention, cables. These differences are n...
Kenwood 7150 Dropping Left Channel; ideas?
Maybe a loose solder joint or perhaps a bad capacitor, assuming all connections are good as you say that they are. A qualified tech would probably have no problem finding the culprit.
no low end st70
Atmasphere (Ralph) raises a good point. Certainly worth checking this out. Years ago, I had a pair of speakers (Rectilinear III's) that came from the factory wired out of phase! In checking the phase, if it seems correct, try reversing polarity of...
Toe-in or NOT toe-in ??
IMHO. . .you need to try for yourself and see what it is about each that you like. In general, and at least for my own observations on this matter, toe in will focus images more specifically at the cost of narrowing your sound stage. Toe out will w...
has lead shot surpassed cold
Might I suggest that you use sand to fill your stands, and Blu-Tak your speakers to the stands. I sincerely doubt that you will notice any audible differences but you will markedly decrease your potential for environmental toxicity.
Levinson gear on 30 rock
I am not sure about this because I am not a CPA, but if the equipment is part of a scene, does that not make it a tax deductable expense (much like a costume would be) for the show producers?
Why not place 2-channel speakers BEHIND listener?
In your office, your going to be using them for backround music anyway, so no big deal. You probably won't be able to have ideal placement anyway. It will be as if you are listening to a concert with your back to the performers, that's all. Enjoy....
Tube newb, what to do?
First, all connections should be secure, including speaker cables. Next, make sure that your pre amp is ON before you turn your amp on, or off (the pre amp should always be in control of your amp). With that said, yes, your tubes will sound better...

The glue holding the ribbons (? if that is what they are) on Maggies tends to dry out and the loose ribbon can "buzz" when driven. The fix is not expensive (glue-the correct type is readily available from on-line and local hardware stores) but is ...
Tube help
Fortunately the loose base should not affect the operating performance of the tube. Just be careful and handle it only by the base when taking it out.
Can I Use One Channel Of A Stereo Power Amp?
You should check with the manufacturer, but I beleive that you can. We used a Crown amp for many years using just one channel without harming the amp in question. More importantly however, I suggest that you choose an amplifier by listening to it ...
XLR or SE cable?
Why don't you just try inexpensive XLR cables and see what the result is compared to the high priced RCA's that you are using? All that you have to loose is a few bucks, and I'm willing to bet that if you don't like them, you will be able to retur...
Zero Feedback: Atmasphere vs. BAT
Atma-Sphere support is nothing short of excellant. They are readily available by e-mail or phone and help with troubleshooting, upgrade suggestions, and whatever your questions might be. They give practical advise that I find has been downright su...
