Don't like vinyl I don't like vinyl because the clicks and plops almost give me a nervous breakdown. Cleaning helps temporarily but who wants to spend 30mins washing and drying a disc every time you want to play it.
What are the sexiest components ever made? Shahinian Obelisk
Magnepan, Ohm, Spatial or ?? Depends on what type of sound you like. Personally I would go with Maggies every time, even if it meant smaller Maggies with subs.
A warm DAC? In djones do we have a rival for kenjit? Otherwise as far as DACs go all the usual suspects have been mentioned, except perhaps Lampizator.
Affordable US Made Tube Pre/Power or Integrated Options I've said it before and will again'VanAlstineRogueDeHavillandBellesModwrightYou can't go wrong with any of these.
What to buy? Maggies and MLs difficult to beat for clean pure mids and highs. On some models a sub might be needed for deep, solid bass.

Decent preamp I would recommend you stick with separates but your budget could be a problem. Used Modwright, Belles, DeHavilland or Van Alstine are all quality but may be too expensive. If you are not averse to Hong Kong designed and built I had an Audio Experi...
10 Audio Cable Myths and Facts Audiophiles are suckers for snake oil and like to believe that if they spend big money on tweaks there must be a difference. I have lived through several decades of so called outstanding and expensive tweaks and cables most worthless. An answer wh...
Basic Digital questions Try the Auris BluMe HD. At around $100 it gives you CD quality when you stream from Tidal etc. The Bluetooth connection is solid and sound is excellent and you will save a lot of money
Is it all worth it? To me definitely not worth it. Even with extensive cleaning the clicks and plops always came back. Give me the convenience of CDs and streaming anytime even at the cost of some SQ. |
