DAC Question: Delta-Sigma vs R2R This question has been asked and answered many times on this forum. In my experience it depends on your amplification. If , as I do, you have a tubed pre and power amp you might prefer Delta Sigma. If you have SS amps then try tubed or R2R DACs. W...
Need help choosing a new DAC Two years ago I went through the same task of trying to find a DAC that made a difference to SQ. Like you I have an all tube system but found that Denafrips Pontus, and the Orchid and Pagoda made absolutely no difference. The distributer for Denaf...
Modern "Vintage" Sounding Preamps Second CJs. Just about the softest pre amps I know of.
amplifier longevity I had Metaxis monos one of which literally went up in flames and also one of the first Musical Fidelity Nu Vista preamps which went incendiary, less spectacularly, because of the dumb double decker design, in a small cabinet with no heat sinks. Th...
Line Stage Preamps that blew you away $2500 Edition Recently I was able to buy a slightly used Aesthetix Calypso for Aus $2200. It is an absolute knockout, nothing I have bought before made as much difference to the SQ. Huge soundstage, dynamic and above all totally musical.
What are you using as a streamer? Constructive feedback please. The Auralic Aries works for me even though the app is, at best, basic.
Do speaker wires have to be the same length for each speaker? Nice if viable but not always possible.
a remarkably basic question about Roon Roon is the best of the apps I have tried and you get a lot of information, bios, filters etc that you might not use. If you listen to classical music Roon is not worth the price. While better than most it still can't cope with listing composers, ...
A decent integrated amp under 2K ... Go with the Belles.
Preamp recommendations for my system please 2nd the Aesthetix Calypso. I have one and love it but I'm told the Callisto is even better, if within your budget ( probably a used one).
Replacement for current speakers suggestions I believe your only option is the small Maggies (can't remember what they are called) Best value ever under $2000 but you might have to find a used sub to keep under $2000. I also l liked Sonus Faber Chameleons but not as much as the Maggies.
Class A amplifier alternative? Rogue's hybrid tube/Class D amps get some good reviews and are in your price range.
Musical Fidelity I had an original NuVista pre which was brilliant for about 3 years until it incinerated itself because, I believe, of the dumb double decker design and small case with inadequate heat sinks. Since then I have been wary of MF although I couldn't f...
$4000 budget for amp and preamp If you like all tube I would second the Belles Aria together with Quicksilver monos.
I agree with Keef How would the serial politically correct deal with Queen's Fat Bottomed Girls? Also for those old enough to remember a slightly more tolerant era and the furore the Beatles caused with Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds. So nothings ever new. |
