Good moving magnet or cheap moving coil
Thin, wooly bass could be a VTA adjustment problem.
How old is this turntable? Oracle Delphi Mk -1
Twl is correct about the age. I used to own one,I feeel that it is indeed a fine sounding unit. any table with that type of suspension needs some care in set up and can take some trial and error. If I am remembering correctly this table had differ...
Good moving magnet or cheap moving coil
Pbb is right about the Shure, I replaced an $800 high output moving coil with one and it has a believability about the sound that just seems right.
InfiniCaps in Audio Research gear
Audioman4, Can you give me a list of the InfiniCap values and voltages in your LS7, if I remember right there are only 4 of them on the board. A friend of mine has an LS7 and is interested in trying the InfiniCaps in his. Thanks for the reply.
InfiniCaps in Audio Research gear
Par3n1, thanks. The web site says very little but I understand the Steve does great work. Please tell me, if you are able or willing, every think you can about what was done and If I may ask what it cost? I love the sound of mine now but am sure t...
InfiniCaps in Audio Research gear
Thanks Albert, I have always thought that of anyone out there reviewing audio, I have tended to agree with Peter Moncrief more often than not. I was aware that this cap is his creation, which seems to follow my patern. I am thrilled with the sound...
Rookie questions - toneam and cartridge
I don't mean to be harsh, but the M91ed is one of the worst sounding cartridges I can remember. If you are going to judge if, in fact you like analog sound by this rig I would follow the advice Jimbo3 gave you and go with at least the cheapest Gra...
Where does your user name come from?
back in the late 70's I had an EMT moving coil that had fairly low output and you could crank the volume(Gain) knob on my ARC pre all the way around and not clip the amp on most material. We called it visiting Max.
Do I need more power?
This brings up a question for more of a tech'ster like Sean. Tube amps are transformer coupled at the output and if I am not mistaken they will not put out more power into a lower impedence load like most solid state designs. Is this correct? I hav...
Robert Cray like sound
Try Melvin Taylor And The Slack Band's "Dirty Pool", leans more tword the Stevie Ray Vaughn side of Blues than Cray does. Has some killer tracks and sounds good.Worth a good listen.
Vandy sub owners-crossovers for 2WQ
Don't worry about what the sensitivity setting on the back of the woofer reads. Sounds like you have it about right with the impedence matching and the woofer level adjusted to suite your room. After you get it dialed in get the fixed X-2 filters ...
Vandy sub owners-crossovers for 2WQ
Bigtee. This very issue has caused me alot of anguish. AVISO! CAUTION! WARNING! DO NOT CONTACT RICHARD ABOUT THIS!! Scott is only trying to be helpful with the suggestion of calling Richard but I have done the very thing he is suggesting and I reg...
6550C vs KT88
Do Not substitue KT88's for 6550's in all ARC amps! It is my understanding that if you try this in a VT 130 SE you are going to cause a problem. Consult with ARC before you try it. A friend did this and the amp torched, and was latter told by ARC ...
What's the best location for a skylight?
I have some placed at those points in my room and it sounds great. Give it a try!
Audioplan power cords
I am wondering where you would aquire these cords? I have Audioplan speaker wire and most folks here I would guess have never heard of Audioplan. I like the sound of the speaker wire but have not tried it against many newer offerings.
