Riddle me this...
I am with Bigtee on the smaller amps often having a magic that the big amps don't. I used to love the old ARC D51 as an example. I love my current 45 watt ARC amp and have no desire to go bigger. With the right speaker or some careful system plann...

Day three.Things have setteled down quite a bit with 36 hours of the fans and or the equiptment running. At this point I have to say that they now are starting to show their stuff. They already sound better than the old ones in many ways. The chan...
The Ferrari 288 GTO of ARC Tube Amps
My experience with this era of ARC follows along the lines of what Albert refers to about updates.I have taken an ARC product from the era of your 11 to what I feel is a new level by some simple updates. There are at least 3 lines of new caps out ...

Lak, I hope you don't mean that all the vocalists with have an accent like Arnold Swartzanager?

Day two.Much better than yesterday. After 24 hours of burn in with as much listening as I could tolerate(not much) and the rest of the time running fans as Lak had suggested and leaving the equiptment running , the sound has relaxed quite a bit. M...
I finally got a Mcintosh amp
Is that a late 70's or 80's vintage Mac amp? If it was, they all sounded like that. None too impressive. The parts quality in those things, such as caps and resistors was lame(it think these used crappy IC's as well!). The general build quality is ...

Lak is right about harsh so far. Anyone that says there is no difference in the sound of outlets needs a hearing ear dog! So far it sounds like old an old Crown DC300 hoked up to ESS AMT 1's. This is only to let the rest of the group know what to ...

Mine got here in great shape yesterday. They have been in for an hour or so. I wanted to get the full experience by hearing them right out of the box. I was going to hook them up in the basement and cook them for a few weeks. I am getting a glimps...
MDF for walls in music listening room
Rives will probably have some thoughts on this. I would bet if you used MDF and drywall sandwiched with a constrained damping layer it would make the walls quite ridgid, which I would think might be great for lowering resonances and producing good...
This is
You have great stuff, now you need to get into some isolation/damping from vibration. I use and find the Bright Star Audio products to be of great benifit in my system.(start with the TT, Big Rock, Air Mass combo, then do the phono and pre with th...
Vandersteen or not to Vandersteen
What is the input impedance of your current amp? The input for an ARC amp will be 100k usually. There are two ways to go here. Use the crappy switchable box that comes with the unit(yes you will need an additional pair of cables, buy a decent used...

Whatever happened to Super A circuitry ?

Whatever happened to Super A circuitry ?
