MF M1Clic - Adding Velodyne sub
While it can certainly be done, the MF is probably less than ideal for the application you seek.If you can locate an NHT X-2 (no easy trick, since it's been discontinued for a while), it will allow you to implement the arrangement that Bob recomme...
AVR :2-channel with sub full range: Source Direct
Although there may be one out there, I don't know of any AVRs that provide that functionality. I think the reasoning behind the omission of the feature is that sub integration (x-over, EQ, etc) is performed in the digital domain on all? / most? AV...
Rivaling or Beyond the ESL 57 for Magical Midrange
The closest I've ever come to an ESL-like midrange was Merlin VSM with Atmasphere's S-30 OTL amp. The system had some issues re bottom end and SPL capabilities, but that was some bad ass midrange right there.BTW, this was one of the first S-30 amp...
Great films where music is a central theme.
If someone mentioned Sound City, I missed it. This is Dave Grohl's documentary about his efforts to "rescue" the analog sound board from the San Fernando Valley recording studio Sound City. Actually, I think he just wanted to film himself hanging ...
My receiver won't work
You may be in Protection Mode. Some manufacturers design their AVRs to flip into this mode when a fault is detected. When this happened with my Marantz AVR, I needed to see a tech. I'd call HK andsees iff there's a user enabled solution.
upgrade advice from Sunfire CRM2 monitors
David,You're in an interesting spot. The CRMs are very good and - if you're using a subwoofer (IMO a MUST! with the CRM) - they can be IMHO very tough to beat in many ways. My only issue with the CRM is that they don't hold up particularly well as...
Does anyone like country
No question that there was a community of Blues players in the 1950s who popularized the idea, BB King probably being the most influential. Interestingly, you can hear even earlier examples here and there. One of the really great, relatively obscur...
Inexpensive wall mount speakers
If the Gallo Stradas (an excellent recommendation IMHO) are too large and/or expensive, the little Micros are a good alternative.

Tostado correctly points out that the pentatonic MAJOR scale is often associated with country music while pentatonic minor (sometimes the hexatonic minor with the added flattened fifth) is a blues scale. I also agree that a lot of the well known S...
Min room size for Wilson Audio Sophia or WP8
No direct experience with your question, but I have A/B'd the two in a larger room. The W/P was definitely a bit leaner in the upper bass which usually augers well for full range loudspeaker use in a smallish room (and I'd call both models full ra...
any thoughts on apogee centaur speakers?
A lower Manhattan retailer had the 8" version (IIRC) on demo when I happened in there +/- 20 years ago. I remember thinking that it was the best soundstage/image I'd ever heard from a planar. Reporting now - 20 years after the fact - my impression...

Not sure if that was a brain cramp or typo. The List is the name of the album. I know several folks that agree with Drubin, but I think it's a GREAT collection of songs and I love the way Roseannne sings 'em. Can't comment on SQ off the top of my ...

Map, Roseanne's "A List" is a great record. She takes on a dozen (+ or -) classics and just nails 'em. She and Johnny definitely set the father daughter musical standard in my book.
R.I.P. Lou Reed
A microwave dinner is okay by me if there's nothing else to eat.
Distance from speakers - 2-way vs. 3-way vs. ?
Per Schubert, there is a distance at which a 1st order crossover theoretically maintains phase coherence - it will vary with the physical properties of the cabinet/drivers - but it's hard to otherwise generalize. As to extreme near field use, singl...
