Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Did someone really say they got Ohms wrapped only in bubble wrap?My 100s arrived in about 6 layers of boxes that also defeated UPS's best attempts to decapitate them by forklift. I joked with John that he uses that many layers of packaging to disc...
Upgrade from Verity Parsifal to Parsifal Encore??
I've never heard the first gen Parsifal (so I can't speak directly to your question), but I've had my P/Es since +/- 1999 and they're IMHO very, very good speakers. However, there was another upgrade (Ovation) about 7 or 8 years ago, IIRC, which c...
Help designing a home theater/listening room
I'd agree that room design is job one. One hint that worked for me:Avoid parallel surfaces.Stepped drop ceiling treatments and/or a platform under the rear row(s) of seats are great for the floor/ceiling issues and pilasters housing lighting eleme...
Wrong speakers
Would my tube amp the Einstein be able to handleThose speakers?Nope. Well, maybe that's a bit much, but I'd certainly say that it's a bad match - certainly worse than the Thiel - for your amp.The MBL designs are very tough on power amps.
Best rock bass player
Who ever played bass on Funkadelic's One Nation Under a Groove deserves mention here as we'll.I believe that's Bootsy, Baby! (Collins)
What is best sub to match with Magnepan?
I've tried the little Velodyne SPL 8 and the 12" Rythmiks with my MMGs. The Rythmiks are flat-out better subs and sound better than the Velos IMHO, but both worked very well as far as seamless integration goes. IME, the idea that Maggies aren't "S...
solid state amp for merlin tsm's ?
It's been several years, and I honestly can't recall whether I had the Merlin RC on board when I had the VSMs hooked up to the Bel Canto. It's always case by case with the RC and, as mentioned, I've literally used more than a dozen amps with my VS...
Would new speakers----
If you start to ask questions like this, the end of the world looms near.
solid state amp for merlin tsm's ?
I've run my VSMs with a class D Bel Canto integrated with great results. My amp is lower powered than yours, but I'm not surprised at the happy marriage. The VSM is a terrific speaker and I've run mine with a half dozen different SS amps (as well ...
Big Something
Thank for the heads up. I'll check it out tomorrow. Sadly, I don't know if a major label deal is out there for a band that's even 6 inches outside the mainstream these days.
Best movie to see what your HT AUDIO will do.
James Bond's "Goldeneye" had some terrific, big screen visuals and IIRC some dramatic audio as well. And, it's a Bond flick!
Which $500 Speaker Next?
I'd seriously consider the small maggies. They might be a squeeze in a smallish room, but you can back 'em up to the wall when not in use. Just an awfully good value at $600ish new.
Marantz AV7005 or Oppo 105
My own view would be to go for an XT32 enabled prepro or AVR. I switched out elaborate gear (ARC, Cary, Joule) in favor of Onkyo. Heresy! However, I'll never go back. One more point to consider:One of your stated goals was excellent 2 channel perf...
Sonics: Marantz vs Denon AVRs "Pure Direct" mode
One more point:If there's any meaningful bass in the recording - analog or digital - it will ALWAYS sound better with the DSP engaged. And IMHO, not by a little.
Sonics: Marantz vs Denon AVRs "Pure Direct" mode
I own an Onkyo pre-pro and have extensively auditioned the Integra version of same. In both cases, the flip to "direct mode" yielded a subtle but audible difference. I suspect that most folks here would prefer it but for me it was too close to cal...
