Brown Eyes - Tusk Reissue
Oblgny,I'm a huge fan of Say You Will.  Oddly, it kind of reminds me of Tusk in that neither record is very coherent to my ear - Say You Will sounds like two solo albums stapled together and Tusk sounds like three solo records stapled together.  I...
Back in the 80's and 90's Audio Research and Conrad Johnson
I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that ARC was acquired by a private equity firm some years ago.  Consequently, ARC may have more financial wherewithal to maintain/improve their market presence than does CJ.As to their relative sonic merits, I've o...
Deezer Elite Holiday Special (For Sonos Users Only)
Does Sonos support that?
Subwoofer pairing with new Magnepan .7's
bdp says..."A pair of Rythmik's are quite nice with the .7's (and 1.7's and 3.7's!)"..I'll add:...and MMGs (which I've used them with). As always, I recommend a quick visit to HTshack.com which offers extensive subwoofer test data.  The proof is in...
Why does most new music suck?
Interesting observation by Schubert.  Rap/hip hop strikes me as much closer in spirit to 1950s Rock n Roll than most other contemporary music.  On the whole, it's been significantly more counter-culture than most other pop music forms that have co...
Gallo 3.1su
Without any knowledge of the specific demands on an amp imposed by your proposed Gallo set-up, I would note that the Onkyo 5010 is a very nice sounding amp.   The published specs don't make a ton of sense for a SS amp (they do suggest that an 8 oh...
Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers
Love the track.  Of all those political protest songs of that era, Volunteers was my personal favorite.  One generation got oldOne generation got soulThis generation got no destination to holdPick up the cry!Great stuff.
Analog or digital crossover for subwoofer integration?
For the record, I did much the same as Bob, jettisoning ARC and Joule preamps for an Onkyo prepro.  I don't use active speakers because I prefer omnidirectional response ( and, AFAIK there are no active omnis).  You might consider flipping to NAD'...
Analog or digital crossover for subwoofer integration?
IME, successful integration of a sub is vastly easier to achieve in the digital domain. If you use strictly digital source material, I'd say it's a no-brainer, go digital.  If you use analog source material, there may be  a philosophical issue wit...
"All Things Must Pass"-Tower Records Documentary
Siliab,if if you needed a glass of wine with that sandwich you could stop by Astor Place Wines.  It was kinda sandwiched between tower records on Broadway and Tower Books on Lafayette. I spent a few bucks there, over the years, too.
Squeeze Concert including one odd tidbit
I always like a food analogy for rock n roll vs classical - but mine would be French haute cuisine vs sashimi. In one case, a chef who has mastered a ton of technique may produce a complicated dish that requires every bit of his training as well a...
Need a subwoofer reccomendation.....
I'll always recommend a visit to htshack.com for a look a the excellent and detailed subwoofer tests. You'll see that Rythmik, Hsu, SVS, and a select few others tend to perform very well for both ultimate low end extension and high distortion free...
I am sick of Adele
If you're tired of Adele and listen to radio, you're SOL because her new one seems to be everywhere. I think that she's a fine singer with a solid + voice, but the appeal of her new single eludes me.
Folk/Rock choices that are well recorded
I'd look for Pentangle and Fairport Convention albums. SQ is variable, but the songwriting and playing (Bert Jansch and John Renbourn in Pentangle, Richard Thompson in Fairport) make any and all of these albums essential guitar folk IMO.
Squeeze Concert including one odd tidbit
As to the track list you requested, here are a few that I'd start with (off the top of my head, so if anyone else wants to chime in, they may well identify a key song that I omitted):Some Fantastic PlaceUp The JunctionIt's OverGoodby GirlAnother N...
