Artists of the Decade ChasRegarding that "glorification of the most base animal aspects" thing. That was once the precise argument against rock 'n roll music. I admit that I also find rap offputting - but maybe that's just me (and maybe you) getting older.Marty
Artists of the Decade Maybe Brendan Benson with 3 excellent solo records and 2 (pretty decent if less excellent) records with The Raconteurs.Lindsey Buckingham had 3 terrific solo records, a spectacular live CD/DVD and many first rate contributions to Fleetwood Mac's "...
Booming Tunes BTW, the Sunfire CRMs are more than decent speakers at their price point, but I suspect that they might be a difficult load for a 300b amp. Marty
Booming Tunes Bassbusters (trashcans) are designed for this issue, but IME bassbusters rapidly lose effectiveness as you drop below 80ish hz. So, you can either:1) Find an active low cut that you can live with for your main speakers (I use an NHT x-2 instead of...
Help building new system: devore, verity or Sonus? I own Verity Parsifal Encores and Sonus Faber Cremonas. I wouldn't let a pair of either get anywhere near a room of the size you're describing. Each is a wonderful speaker in its own way, both would need a significantly larger room to demonstrate ...
How do you drive 12 Ohm speakers? It's also possible that these speakers produce woolly bass as an inherent result of their design. A well chosen amp won't necessarily solve this problem. It might, but then again, it might not.Marty
how to include the subwoofer? BTW,I'm pretty sure that the NHT X-2 is available direct (oand IIRC from AudioAdvisor.com for a few bucks less) with a money back guarantee for a home trial period. There's little at risk if you're tempted to check it out.Marty
how to include the subwoofer? Good point. It never occurred to me to try this. That's probably because, IME with measuring system response in room, I've found that almost any speaker with extended bass response will produce significant excess energy somewhere above 80 hz - in ...
how to include the subwoofer? Dgaylin,Sorry I missed your intervening post re: the smooth bass response you're already getting from the Curves. My room makes such a result impossible. So, as Emily Litella once so aptly put it "Oh...never mind".Marty
how to include the subwoofer? Dgaylin,If you're looking to maintain the "purity" of the main signal path, what are your choices? I can pretty much assure you that the high pass in the NHT is less audible (and much more flexible) than the high pass in the SMS-1 as I have extens...
how to include the subwoofer? I recommended experimenting with higher x-over frequencies because my experience with room issues has usually revealed the most audible problems lie between 50hz and 150hz, especially 80ish to 120ish . These are pretty common and usually very, ver...
how to include the subwoofer? I'd go with your last choice - separate x-over. If the high pass filter in your DD12 is the same as the one in my Velodyne SMS-1 controller - and I believe that it is - it ain't great. It subjects the main signal path to A/D/A processing and has a...
Separate Crossover for JL f112 Subwoofer? Adding a sub affords the opportunity to use digital room correction in the bass. Units are available from Audyssey, SVS (using Audyssey technology), and Velodyne (my choice). Cross at 100hz or so, and you can clean up most of the destructive room ...
Here's a challenge:a class A sound system for less Give me digital room correction below 100hz and any good monitor (Maggie, Ohm, Merlin TSM, etc., etc.) over the mega-bucks loudspeaker of your choice. With a pair of good subwoofers, you're looking at $2.5K to $5K for your full range loudspeaker s...
