high end subwoofer...which one tho?
I use Rythmik subs, but for a dedicated HT set-up, I'd probably choose SVS. Disclaimer - I use a pair of 12" Rythmiks (not 15" which are probably more suitable for HT use). Also note that my comments are based on comparison of the performance test...
Speakers for long, tall, bare room in NYC
Digital Room Correction (like TacT) is probably your best solution. I use the Velodyne SMS-1 with subs which applies DRC only to the bass region, but I'm not sure it'll fix what's ailing you up there in the mid bass. Audyssey makes a full range DR...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em?
Zkz,I had to laugh a bit when I saw your post. I'm a big fan of Blake/Froom and Los Lobos. However.....I've always referred to "Colossal Head" as "Colassal Bore".By far, my least favorite Lobos record and seeing it performed live at the Lobos typi...
Sub s for Dali Megaline system
Ray,What are you trying to achieve?1) Greater bass exention? (I'd think the Dalis go as low as almost any signal on any musical recording, although HT might be a different story. Not so?)2) Greater clean spl potential throughout the bass region? 3...
Music from House, MD
To All,Thanks for the quick responses. It's strange...I've heard that song a hundred times (IMHO, it makes a legit claim for Eddie Hazel's inclusion on the short list of great players) and it still didn't register. Funny how context affects percept...
Integra DTR-8.3 for Analog System
Depends on room size and SPL levels required. In a medium sized room, you should be able to go quite loud with that combo. In a reallly large room....BTW, for rock, you might want to think about a sub (or 2) with your MMGs (particularly since your...
To audyssey or not to audyssey, that is the ...?
Dave,To be clear:When I said Audyssey or similar, I was referring to effective "room" EQ (specifically for issues below 100hz to 150hz). Even though the specific operating principle differs in many ways from the Audyssey, I'd think that effective ...
To audyssey or not to audyssey, that is the ...?
My own view is that the use of Audyssey or similar is absolutely imperative for room related issues in the bass region. The cost/benefit analysis higher up in frequency, however, seems to be much more variable depending on the individual listener ...
Speakers for live piano performance
Wolf,If your issue really extends up into the octave below middle c (when you said below middle c, you didn't specify how far below), then I doubt that the sub is the answer. In my case, the issues were more centralized in/below the lowest full oct...
Speakers for live piano performance
I paid a quick visit to their website and it looks like QSC has a subwoofer designed to mate with your K8s. Unless your issues extend upward beyond the lowest full octave on the keyboard, this is the first fix I would try.Marty
Speakers for live piano performance
I use a Kawai digital piano at home and found that a sub/sat works best. My set-up wouldn't be appropriate for your needs, but a smallish sub and your pair of (I assume) powered monitors might do the trick.Good LuckMartyPS Try to demo Ivory or Vir...
Lp's you'd like to see remastered
Pretty much all of Todd Rundgren's solo output could use a thorough re-do.Marty
Powered sub suggestions to mate /w Harbeth P3ESRs
You might want to look into a Velodyne SMS-1 ($450) or SVS/Audyssey ($750) sub controller. My guess is that, together with your existing sub, this will provide the biggest incremental bang for your (half kilo to kilo) buck.Good LuckMartyPS - If yo...
Best pre-amp/amp combo for Maggie MMGs?
The litle Maggies will gulp more amp juice than you might expect. My room is quite large and when SPL goes up, I'm pretty deeply into my amp's output. Although I use subs which limit the bottom end (and associated amp requirements) of the MMGs, I ...
Eminent Tech. LFT-16 vs Spica TC60
IIRC, the ET will be a much more forward sounding speaker than the Spica. The Spica is a neutral, revealing design that is limited in bandwith at both ends, with highly damped bass that's on the "dry" side. The ET is more dynamic with real sparkle...
