Who is your overall favorite guitarist?
Lately, I've been revisiting the stuff from Pentangle and John Renbourne and Bert Jansch (particularly Jansch) put on quite a display of fancy pickin'. The recent Ron Wood release also serves to remind just how good he can be. I'll stick with my e...
Jennifer Warnes fans?
More enthusiastic than Onemalt, but I know EXACTLY where he's coming from.
The Feelies are back
To my knowledge, the Willies never recorded anything - so maybe it's semantics in the end.
The Feelies are back
Onhwy61,Trivia to your trivia: That band in Something Wild looks a lot like The Feelies, but (as a technical matter) it's not. It's actually The Willies. Same band membership, but Dave Weckerman (percussionist foor The Feelies) is the songwriter a...
The Feelies are back
Jebe,Thanks for the link. I loved the track and I'd bet it will be a monster live. Check out that little solo by (I believe) Million at the 1:40ish mark. You know that will stretch to about 4 minutes in concert. I do hope they get out to LA so I d...
The Feelies are back
Onhwy,Can't really argue, but....In the studio vs live, it's almost like they were almost 2 different bands. The CDs sound like quirky, minimalist alt. rock. A clever, interesting variation of rock music that was almost abstracted from the origina...
NAD T747 OR Marantz SR7005
You might want to look at the Anthem AVRs, as well. They seem to represent great value (features/$) relative to the Anthem Pre-Pros, although they still might be a bit pricey relative to NAD/Integra/Marantz.Good LuckMarty
any early 80's alt/soft punk fans out there?
No love for The Bongos here?Great mix of songcraft and rock energy. Their first single, "The Bullrushes", is IMHO a stone classic from the era and the band was off-the-charts tremendous live. When ????? (Yikes, I can't remember the guy's name, but...
Favorite Bert Jansch solo CD
Thanks all for your time and advice.I have most (all?) of the Pentangle stuff and "Bert and John" (their pre-Pentangle collaboration). I'm more focused om the side project and post Pentangle material fom Jansch. There are some good pointers hereMarty
High-end amplifier clarification?
Oops, upon closer inspection the Pivetta is 20K watts TOTAL, to be divided among 1 or more channels via some user setting.(Bait and switch tactics, if you ask me). On the other hand, HigherFi does offer a nice discount on the unit (asking only $49...
High-end amplifier clarification?
If I correctly understood the link that Kijanki so kindly provided, the$650K/pr. Pivetta mono amps provide 20,000 WPC. This is just a bit over $30 per watt/ch. I'm not sure that this is costly enough to qualify as true "high end". Many a bargain p...
Separates or Receiver to modernize home theater?
Anyone ever A/B the Anthem AVRs vs their pre/pros or the Integra AVRs vs their pre/pros? The AVRs are usually quite a bit cheaper than the comparably feature laden pre/pros. It seems that you give up the third or fourth HDMI and balanced outs (plu...
How do Ohm Walsh speakers compare to Maggies?
I used to own Maggie 3.5s and they were great...if the room allowed them to be, which my current room does not. Room corrected subwoofers are mandatory in this space, as far as I'm concerned. So....I currently own Ohm 100s and Maggie MMGs, both of...
Funk Essentials - Under The Radar
Sorry -I always try to thank everyone for their input and I haven't yet done so, so I will now.Thank You!I've got a baker's dozen on the way from CD Connection.Marty
$2500 speaker threshold
Might be the ol' Vandy "2.X" Test. This speaker has been a default recommendation by a lot of folks for (almost) full-range high end speaker value since its introduction app. 35 years ago. Whatever the "then current" 2.X version costs can habituall...
