Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
Yes, I can confirm that Mick is on vacation. He should be back in the next few days.BTW, there was some interest expressed over on the "preamp deal of the century" thread in a Supratek owners thread. I do plan to create one soon. It will be a plac...
Help selecting a new preamp
Waltersalas-I am interested in hearing your thoughts about how the Sachs compares to the Suprateks you owned. Would you be willing to share some thoughts on that?
Preamp Deal of the Century
I think I it might be time to start Supratek owners thread... Anyone else interested?
Which solid state power house: Naim NAP 500DR or McIntosh MC611?
My counsel (unasked for, I know) is , after you've got it sorted properly, is to set it and forget it and just buy/enjoy the music. The Talmud says "the wise man is the contented man". You've certainly got a system that should be able to deliver t...
Bendix 6106 burn-in behavior
In my correspondence with Nick he did not directly advise me or suggest that the 6106 was incompatible with the Cortese. But I do recall reading a post somewhere to that effect. But he doesn't call it out on his substitution list, so maybe that sh...
Used Pre under $8K with lowest nosie floor(?)
My Supratek Cortese is silent.
Bendix 6106 burn-in behavior
Thanks to both of you for your responses. Here's a little more information - The builder of my preamp has advised that the tube is faulty. Replacing the Bendix 6106 with the stock tube immediately eliminated the problem, and the seller has issued ...

Will a pair of Manley tube amps be a good match for Martin Logan ESL 11A's?
I was about to provide the same counsel as mijostyn above, and am gratified to read it here before I posted it. Roger Sanders excellent white paper on tubes vs transisters explains a lot.My .02 is that you probably can pair Manleys with the Martin...
Preamp Deal of the Century
Oh my merciful heavens. Yes, I play a lot of digital, both cd and via a streamer. Frankly, the line stage is superb. It is so good that it is giving me an opportunity to reflect on how much more I want to invest in additional physical media (thoug...
Do I go from a Primaluna HP Integrated to Schiit Freya+ and a pair of Aegir Amps?
I'm using a tube preamp with a solid state amplifier, and it works well. However, it seems the Prima Luna is very highly regarded, so this raises the question of why upgrade? Perhaps an upgrade to your speakers would produce a more dramatic/audibl...
Want a new amp but what to get?
Before you make your final decision, I encourage you to read Roger Sanders' excellent white paper (you can find it on Sanderssoundsystems.com in his Technical Papers section) titled tubes vs. transistors. I found this extremely educational.
Supratek or Don Sachs - which way to go?
The volume control is super smooth and solid. It can be controlled from the remote. The "channel" buttons change the volume in smaller steps. The "volume" buttons are "normal", whatever that means.
Preamp Deal of the Century
1. There is zero hiss from the preamp. Not through my ESL 63s, driven by Innersounds Electrostatic Amplifier or through my 93dB efficient JBL 4430s.2. It is superb at all volume levels. 3. The volume knob is extremely solid. Both the volume knob a...
looking for a tube preamps that doesn't sound like SS
Oh, easy. Take a close look at the Supratek Audio Chardonnay. This is the latest iteration of the preamp that kicked off the longest running thread on Audiogon. Search for "Preamp Deal of the Century".Another top candidate would be the Don Sachs M...
