Reccomend a good preamp for me.
@fastfreight, "The comments about the Benchmark are ironic to me; It measures great and imparts nothing to the music. But (to me) the audionet stuff provides much better soundstage and imaging, with amazing resolution."Honest question: Have you d...
Reccomend a good preamp for me.
I replaced my PS Audio BHK with a Benchmark LA4. Great move for me. The gain of the BHK is significant, resulting in noise with 6 and 7 volt tubes in my efficient system (might not be a problem with less efficient speakers and lower powered amps)....
Low gain preamp options
Not tubed, but it would be a mistake to not consider the Benchmark LA4, with user variable input sensitivity. Meets all your other requirements, and the price is right.
Anyone Successfully Go from Floor Standers to Bookshelf Monitors w/ Subs?
Slightly off topic: Do you remember the double large Advent speaker setup? I have often wondered if that kind of synergy occurs with other monitor type speakers. Anyone here ever try that with today's high quality monitors (Watkins, Fritz, ProAc, ...
Gain Matching - need advice
I had a similar problem. BHK Sig. pre > Jeff Rowland Monos > Spatial X-5's (97dB, 8ohms). The volume level was low but manageable, but I was having a lot of trouble with tube noise due to the gain of the preamp. Someone on the PS Audio forum...
What speaker – under $10k – has the best timbre and tonal qualities?
Surprised nobody has mentioned the Spatial Audio Lab X5. At 97db sensitivity, you should have plenty of power with your Prima Luna. Open baffle design, very natural tonality once broken in and set up properly. 60 day in-home trial. I am very pleas...
Spacial Audio Lab X3 and Pure Audio Project Quintet 15
I have a pair of X5’s in a rather large room, 25 x 25 x 8, and they are wonderful. My Rowland mono blocks have way more power than they will ever need, but the image is large, immersive, and refined.
Wanting to get back into the hobby and want to start with the speakers.
Here are a couple of suggestions to consider that have not been mentioned: I had the Maggies 1.7s driven by a Rowland Model 2 and I liked them very much, but they dominated my living room visually. I ended up replacing them with a pair of Totem Fo...
Streaming for beginner
With Bridge II installed you will also have access to internet radio via vTuner in software. There are A LOT of great broadcasts available, and the sound quality of many is quite good. Do it, you won't regret it.
Discussion of Class D Amps Application & Experiences
@falconquest I apologize, just saw your question to me.The M700's just didn't come alive for me. It has been more than a year, so I'm afraid I can't be as specific as I would like to be. And I readily admit that my expectations were low, so I'm su...
Discussion of Class D Amps Application & Experiences
“Speaking of PS Audio, anyone have any comments on the M700's?”I gave them a try but they didn’t do it for me. Not bad, but not what I was looking for. The price was certainly right. One more thing about the Rowland 535s: don’t use any kind of powe...
Discussion of Class D Amps Application & Experiences
I Know you said the Rowlands are out of your price range, but I would like to recommend the 535. One of them new is in your price range. I have a pair as mono's (they are designed to be used that way if you choose). I had a Rowland Model 2 (A/B) f...
Should I be able to hear a 4Hz difference in my speakers?
I have the Forest Signatures in a 25 x 25 x 8 ft room. Running full range from Rowland monos with a single sub rolled off at the lowest point available and they are sublime. Which is to say they kick ass. Get a sub and enjoy life. They are fine sp...
Moving up from an Oppo 205
I can't compare my rig to the others discussed, but I am very happy with what I have: Cambridge Azure CD player as a drive (not using upsampling) into PS Audio Directstream Sr. with Bridge II. I also have an OPPO 105 and recently did a comparison ...
