Tracking Troubles--Upgrade or Setup?
Doug's helped me alot, and Doug usually has all the bases covered, but sometimes everybody cannot "guess" what the malady is?I can only say to hold everything suspect. The Shure, while known to be a good bang for the dollar Cartridge could be at f...
Damping fluid for Audioquest pt-6
I've asked this same question both privately with some others, and also I believe publicly here.I didn't have any success with numerous Forum, or Web searches, nor did I have any luck contacting Audioquest, or Sumiko to even get information of wha...
Lp cleaning - scrubbing records - any downside?
Static electricity is a science that stymies me, and have a hard time fully understanding just how it works, and why it affects people living in certain areas, and oddly, doesn't substantially affect those in others? As an example, I now live in th...
Cartridge upgrade for VPI Scoutmaster
Redtop/All, Yes, my Shure is very good, good enough to the point of never parting with it. It got even better with the Jico SAS Replacement Stylus.I know Rauliruegas has been a proponent of MM, and has some good articles here, but I never heard hi...
Cartridge upgrade for VPI Scoutmaster
Hello Steve,Within the last 6 months, I have sampled two very nice Cartridges on my own VPI HW-19 Table. Those being the Benz Ruby 3, and the ZYX Airy 3X SB.Both Low Output Cartridges, being .34mv for the Benz Ruby 3, and .24mv for the ZYX Airy 3....
Lp cleaning - scrubbing records - any downside?
Hello Eweed/AllLike you, I use the Mo-Fi brush pads, and use one for each of either a 3, or 4 step AIVS cleaning process on my VPI 16.5.The combination of letting th fluids do thier job, and then a very light scrub seems to work perfectly for me.W...
Acrylic Platters and Shinny Spots
Don't doubt what you say at all about Alcohol, but do wonder why you would then say Denatured Alcohol would be OK? I'm certainly no chemist, but was of the belief that Denatured Alcohol contained some other various chemicals in it to essentially r...
Acrylic Platters and Shinny Spots
Hello, I have to disagree. While the shiny spots "might" be oils-greases etc, they can possibly be areas from rubbing, either from shipping, or improper handling at factory. A one time deal, cleaning with Windex-Glass Plus shouldn't be detrimental...
cantilever collapsed on Shure V-15 III
The info is probably here, but again, simple answer, buy the TOTL Jico SAS Stylus from LP Gear. Keep in mind, this uses a Boron Cantilever, so be careful about VTF settings, and follow Jico's recommended range. Mark
Steam Revisited
Hello, It may be appreciated-respected by some, that you didn't start a thread slamming a particular cleaning product, but I, and probably others don't mind if you're a little more candid.Meaning, that yes, your particular previous cleaner, brushe...
Sutherland - Ph.D. Phono Stage
A burn in? You mean does it get better from new with time? I would suspect so to a point. As from a dead start-up, the Sutherland sounds good, as there doesn't seem to be any warm-up time. It's great from the first seconds it begins to play. Mark
Loricraft Record Cleaning
Hello Paul, No RCM machine is without flaw,, the need of tweaking, and some mechanical aptitude. The Loricraft can be touchy from what I understand. But are basically little things you have to insure are in good oder, like a good seal on the Fluid...
VPI Scout vs. HW 19
Hello CP, I own a HW-19 with AQ Arm.19 Series Tables do pop up here with good regularity, and yes, can be a good deal if one is in the right place, at the right time. The most desireable 19 model would be the MV-IV version, and many would probably...
Lyra Titan i with a Manley Steelhead....settings??
Hello John, Well, the boys might be taking a short vacation, but all is not lost, as the boys have left tons of valuable information in thier wake.Although I don't personally know him, I believe Mr Carr to be a great guy, and willing to share his ...
Record cleaning Q's - brushes and fluid
Hello Zaegoz,Like you, (And Doug Deacon) I use the AIVS products, but use the full blown four step process, with the Ultra Pure Water Rinse at the very end.For now, I also use the Mo Fi Brush Pads for each step.I agree, the Pads, since they are ar...
